CAIR-NJ is holding its 20th-anniversary celebration at the Islamic Center of Passaic County (ICPC) - home of longtime imam Mohammad Qatanani.

Israeli military court records say Mohammad Qatanani. was convicted in 1993 of membership in Hamas and providing a service to Hamas. Qatanani denies being a Hamas member, and those records were later disputed in his U.S. immigration proceedings.

But then comes the history.

After leaders of the Holy Land Foundation were sentenced in the Hamas-financing case, Qatanani prayed for their release, called the judgment “political,” and defended CAIR:

“They are trying to go after CAIR.”

Qatanani also spoke at an Islamic Association for Palestine conference. The IAP was later identified in federal litigation as part of the U.S. infrastructure supporting Hamas.

Then ICPC repeatedly hosted Syrian cleric Mohammad Rateb Al-Nabulsi - who had defended Palestinian suicide bombings and declared “all the Jewish people are combatants” in Israel.

Al-Nabulsi later posed with senior Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.

And Qatanani's own sermons?

He called Jerusalem and Palestine an “Islamic issue.”

He urged Muslims to “deep root” their existence in America.

He preached about jihad and “struggling with the Quran.”

He said seeking happiness “outside of the Sharia” was the “pinnacle of ignorance.”

And now, after all of that history:
