Yeah, because the fossil fuel industry is known for it's "honesty"...
"Notable fossil fuel industry misrepresentations/lies about environmental impact:
1. Knew about climate change for decades but publicly denied it: Exxon and others had accurate internal models predicting global warming from fossil fuels as early as the 1950s–1970s, yet publicly emphasized "uncertainty" and funded denial campaigns.

2. Claimed climate science was uncertain or not human-caused: While internal research confirmed fossil fuels' role, companies like ExxonMobil ran ads and supported groups (e.g., Global Climate Coalition) to sow doubt into the 2000s.

3. Downplayed or hid oil spill impacts: Minimized long-term damage from spills like BP's Deepwater Horizon (millions of gallons, massive wildlife deaths), often claiming rapid recovery or limited effects.

4. Greenwashing with false "clean" or "transition" claims: Promoted natural gas as a "bridge fuel," carbon capture, or hydrogen while continuing high-emission operations and lobbying against regulations.

5. Misled on air/water pollution and health effects: Downplayed contributions to acid rain, mercury contamination, fracking wastewater toxicity, and broader habitat destruction.

6. Shifted blame and promoted false solutions: Blamed consumers/individuals, overstated effectiveness of efficiency measures or tech fixes while opposing meaningful phase-outs.

7. Understated cumulative biodiversity/climate-driven losses: Minimized links between fossil fuels, extreme weather, and wildlife/population declines."
@reallyoptimized I live in the Netherlands, grew up in South Africa, and I agree the selection isn't good. However, if I want, I can 100% get top quality ingredients. The meat isn't great though...
@RachelVT42 This logic is flawed.
1. Beauty is subjective. Some might find Europe more beautiful, others America. It's like trying to objectively debate music taste.
2. In the 90s, many Americans were also visiting Europe. So that's not compelling.
3. This doesn't have to be a competition...
@LadyDemosthenes Who is telling you to do that, though? When I lived in South Africa, I was able to travel happily every year within the borders. There's nothing wrong with it.
