Went to the salon the other day and noticed a couple of kids coming in and going out without paying for their haircut…
I had to ask my barber, “is today bonus day or what?” With a shocker on his face replied “boss nooo”.
So I told him about the kids that had left and the couple more still waiting… he said the kids were from some orphanages around and that was his contribution to society. That he does it regularly on the said day of the week.
I was immediately inspired. Went there today to get a shave and I didn’t see kids like I saw the last time so I asked if the kids didn’t come today.
He first said, I came early that he usually cuts them somewhere from noon but the clippers he uses for them developed fault so he’s saving to get a new set by new week.
I further asked, how many kids he averages in a week… he smiled and said if it’s only one of the orphanages bringing kids, he does about 17 but if all three orphanages brings kids then about 40.
I did a quick calculation in my head and I’m like, this is beyond commendable. In that instant, we sat together, I sent him money to 5 new clippers for the kids.
I’m thinking of taking it a nudge further to send someone to visit these orphanages and see if I have the capacity to meet a need or two… tis the season.
