Two young South Africans looked at the e-hailing industry and saw the same problem drivers have complained about for a decade.

You work 12 hour days. You cover fuel, maintenance, data, your own safety. Then a platform based on the other side of the world takes 25 to 45 percent of every single trip.

Persy Qamata and Msizi Mtolo built Bro Cabs because they were done watching that math play out on SA roads.

Their model is simple. Zero commission. Drivers pay a R300 once off verification fee, then R600 a month. Every Rand from every trip after that belongs to the driver.

Their words, unsoftened: when a driver hands over 30 to 45 percent of every trip, he isn't building anything. He's just surviving.

It's not only about the money.

Bro built its safety stack around the reality of SA roads. Panic button. Verified drivers. Live trip sharing. A 24 hour line where an actual person answers.

Big platforms treated South Africa like just another market to conquer and move on from.

Two local founders built something rooted here instead.

What did I miss.

My biggest fear about our generation is the lack of community.

Earlier this year my grandmother passed and I watched an entire village come together to help with the proceedings. There were women who brought their massive pots and cooking utensils while the men brought chairs, tents and tables and also offered much needed hands. I genuinely couldn’t believe how many people showed up. People were even cooking throughout the night. No matter how much you may think you’ve prepared for a funeral, it’s never enough especially in the village. It made me realize that such things wouldn’t necessarily happen in urban areas.

Many young people just choose to live in complete isolation. Some don’t even know their own neighbours and it makes you wonder who will stand beside them when the inevitable occurs.

What hurts the youth the most is that they did everything their parents advised them to do and are yet to reap the benefits.

Imagine going to school and staying out of trouble your entire life only to be at the mercy of a struggling economy.

Heard the funniest story today 😭

So this young dude parked his car at the shopping centre and there wasn’t a car behind him when he arrived. On his way out his mind blacked out and he accidentally rammed the car behind him because he didn’t see it. The owner of the car arrives and becomes incredibly hostile towards the young dude. The young dude suggests that they exchange details so insurance can sort it out but the old man refuses because he doesn’t let just anyone touch his car.

They agree on a figure and how to proceed and they go their separate ways. On their way home the older man gets into another more serious accident and almost has his car written off. He then calls the young man and tells him that he no longer has to pay for damages because “something else came up” 😭

Young guy eventually hears about the accident and then on the following Sunday he testifies at church about how God blesses you when you least expect it 😭

I'm here to remind everyone that there were floods in Mthatha in February of this year. Not a single helicopter was deployed to rescue victims only until 7 days later. Even then it was one Oryx from SAAF. 104 people died from this, and some are still missing till this day.
