Julius Malema, leader of South Africa's Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and one of South Africa's most influential political figures, delivered a passionate defence of African unity at the University of Limpopo, arguing that colonialism, rather than fellow Africans, is the root cause of many of South Africa's and the continent's economic challenges.

Malema's words are pertinent considering the rise of Afrophobia and anti-African attacks in South Africa that have seen locals violently targeting African migrants and business owners across the country.

Speaking about migration, labour, and South Africa's history, Malema rejected the idea that African migrants are responsible for the country's economic problems. Instead, he argued that Southern Africa's economy was built collectively by workers from across Africa, many of whom were exploited during the colonial era under British imperialist Cecil John Rhodes.

Malema pointed to the history of Fanagalo, a pidgin language that developed in Southern African mines among workers from different ethnic backgrounds, as evidence that Africans from countries including South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique have long contributed together to the region's economy.

Nor does he have the right to publicly comment on a patient’s health condition without that patient’s consent.

In his eagerness to serve his master, Baryomunsi seems willing to dispense with medical ethics, patient privacy and basic respect for others.

A minister is not above a patient’s rights.

Today, after Minister Chris Baryomunsi visited, everything changed.
An order came to remove @kizzabesigye1 from Mulago and return him to Luzira, against the recommendation we had heard from the prisons official and while he remains unable to care for himself.

Who gave this order, and why was medical judgment overridden?

Taking a helpless patient from where he can receive rehabilitation and family assistance, and returning him to a prison that cannot support his condition, is cruel.

Dr Kizza Besigye has a right to health, dignity and proper medical care. His life and health must not be put at risk.
