Our biggest challenge: On the regulatory framework, there exist three legal forms for operating a legal entity in Tanzania; the government, for-profit and not for profit organizations. #GrowingSeTZ@TujengeTZ
For instance, exemptions and incentives are provided for medicines, equipment and some other health accessories meant for SE activities when such things are purchased abroad. Such exemptions are offered to NGOs that are registered as not for profit. #GrowingSeTZ@TujengeTZ
Other SE had to change their names to meet the NGO registration requirements.
There exist however some rules and regulations that support SE activities. #GrowingSeTZ@TujengeTZ
There are no law and or bylaws at the government level that target specifically the SE sector. To conform to the country policy regulations, most SE register as NGOs. Other registers with both as for-profit and not for profit. #GrowingSeTZ@TujengeTZ
4/4 Three aspects need to be considered in defining SE: the social objective, public benefits and sustainability through funding or market approach. More research on SE will guide policy development and provide a clear demarcation between a SE, NGO and CSR.#GrowingSeTZ@TujengeTZ
3/4 Social Entrepreneurship "refers to a way of solving pressing social issues or problems by using entrepreneurial principles or by integrating business model in individuals’ intervention to such social problems”. #GrowingSeTZ@TujengeTZ
2/4Besides its development, SE is interchanged with NGOs, charity organizations and Corporate Social Responsibility. Impliedly, NGOs and charity organization have the objective of providing services or products that will transform the society. #GrowingSeTZ@TujengeTZ
1/4The presentation on the "State of Social Enterprise in Tanzania"
In the Tanzanian context, the concept “Social Enterprise” (SE) is not that familiar among the stakeholders. #GrowingSeTZ@TujengeTZ
Social entrepreneurship ecosystem stakeholder’s meeting is here to coordinate efforts different stakeholders have been taking towards growing the sector in Tanzania #GrowingSeTZ@TujengeTZ
We are on, today we are here to make a stand and vouch for stakeholders collaboration towards growing social entrepreneurship sector #GrowingSeTZ@TujengeTZ
