Great afternoon speaking to residents on Norwood Road today - lots of support for our @UKLabour candidates - stopping antisocial behaviour & cladding safety raised by residents. Thanks to colleagues from @labourstockwell & @StreathamHLab for joining us today!
On Thursday 5 May, use all your votes for Labour in the new wards of Brixton Rush Common (3 votes for 3 councillors) & St Martin’s (2 votes for 2 councillors). Follow their accounts for more information about @LambethLabour’s candidates for our local area #VoteLabour#OnYourSide
Just one week to go until polling day. With 36 years of council experience between them - Marcia Cameron, Adrian Garden & Ben Kind are experienced campaigners who all live locally. Use your 3 votes for Labour on Thursday 5 May 🌹🌹🌹#VoteLabour#OnYourSide
Tulse Hill estate has a new website https://t.co/jjWzSJa4qk
And they are hiring a fundraising and project manager
https://t.co/W0QWL1URLU Great job in a great community. 😀😀😀
No shows from the Greens, Lib Dems and Conservatives just two weeks before the local elections.
Only Labour is standing to represent everyone, in every part of Lambeth. #OnYourSide
Last year we helped with the launch of the Tulse Hill cycling club - now we’ve got bike storage for the club’s bikes on St Matthew’s Road and more on street/estate bike storage coming to the wider area in the future 🚲🚲🚲
Then, on Sun 24th, the residents of @josephineavenue will be out tidying up/trimming hedges and bushes ahead of the return of the first in-person @UrbanArtBrixton since 2019. There’s even refreshments provided from 1pm!
Two chances for green fingers in south Brixton next weekend…
First, Sat 23rd, @StMartinsTRA volunteers/residents will be transforming a stretch of wasteland on the corner of Roupell/Christchurch Road. Lots of hard prep work means this space could soon be a new community garden!
Officially confirmed by Lambeth Council that we’re @LambethLabour Brixton Rush Common Ward candidates. On top of @TulseHillLabour’s monthly sessions, we’ve delivered 10s of 1000s of leaflets/knocked on 1000s of doors to talk to residents since last summer https://t.co/Tgp2WEG4Ld
Soon new lighting and CCTV will also be installed to improve public safety alongside the work already done to increase police patrols to address antisocial behaviour and work by Lambeth Council’s excellent in-house parks team to manage bushes/hedgerows to reduce spaces for ASB
Wonderful carnival atmosphere on Rush Common this afternoon for “Rush into Spring” celebration. Amazing work by local volunteers, @StMatthewsTRA & investment from @lambeth_council over last 2 years has seen a new playground/woodland trail installed & lots of 🌳🪴🌼🌸🌹🌿 planted
We have opened a new disability resource centre at Coburg Crescent providing a range of support including:
✅ Supported living flats
✅ A respite service for adults with learning disabilities
✅ A café providing employment opportunities
✅ A community space
✅ And a local shop
How it started vs how it’s going…
Fuel prices haven’t gone down despite Tory promises & £2.5bn cost of cutting duty could’ve gone on helping the most in need rather than company profits. Meanwhile, car clubs & ways of reducing vehicle dependency get more expensive 🙄
We've been standing up for private renters by cracking down on rogue
landlords & hidden fees
In 2020/21, we issued £49,000 of penalty
notices to letting agents who failed to meet their obligations & we've been working to ensure landlords comply with the ban on additional fees.
Pleased to see that the Elm Park Tavern, with the help of a grant from Lambeth Council we helped secure, has reached the threshold on its Crowdfunder to allow it to cover the costs of repeated lockdowns after they said “Government support… has not been enough to keep us going.”
About to attend my last Lambeth Council meeting as I step down as a councillor in May. Pleased to support a budget that is principled and supportive of Lambeth’s communities at my final meeting.
From the elections in May, Tulse Hill Ward residents living on the St Martin’s Estate and along/off Upper Tulse Hill (from its southern end to Athlone Road) will become residents of the new St Martin’s Ward. Saleha and Olga will be great councillors for that community!
