US elections could learn from Brazilian model: 1) entirely electronic system used nationally since 2000 not connected to internet, results by day’s end & no history of voter fraud; 2) voting is on Sundays so more can participate; & 3) employers must allow time off for employees!

Had the opportunity to observe first round of Costa Rica’s presidential elections. US could learn from the process here: robust but civil debates with strict time limits and simulated elections for kids. Ticos are rightly proud of their efficient, transparent process.

In pandemic we had safe, secure pres. election w/ record turnout & no systemic fraud. Now GOP states want to limit voting. "Restoring confidence" should include:
* voters able to "cure" absentee ballot errors
* online ballot tracking
* process absentee ballots B4 election day

Just heard Josh Horowitz discuss his 2009 book Guns, Democracy, and the Insurrectionist Idea where he and his co-author predicted extremist violence like Jan. 6 well before Trump. He notes most constitutional scholars agree there's no 2nd Amendment right for armed insurrection.

I'm old enough to recall Nixon's WH departure in 74. Columnist Art Buchwald noted this peaceful transition took place with only traffic cops in the streets of DC. The 45 to 46 transition turned DC. into a fortified green zone. It took a crisis to see the domestic terror threat.
