This is a really good question. I’ll try to explain.
We don’t care about being in a club, about being like other groups. Or at least we shouldn’t.
What we actually care about is that people know our devotion to Christ. We worship Him as the Son of God, as God the Son, our Savior and Redeemer, and the only way by which we can return to God the Father. We are asked to testify of Christ - it’s a covenant we make as members of His church. An explicit promise. It’s why you see us fight to make sure others know our love for Jesus.
In our view, this clearly falls under the definition of the word “Christian”. See the definition below.
But we also acknowledge we are very, very different from creedal Christianity, or the rest of the Christian world. We do not seek to be like others. In fact we really *like* the differences we have.
Hope that answer helps a little.
@_renatov The gifts of the Spirit are attributes of God that we develop by exposure to the Holy Ghost. The Gospel is much more than an undo button, it’s access to an exalting power.
@cheneypiano@Ch_JesusChrist Hey man sorry to hear that. Have you posted it anywhere that I can take a listen?
While it might not yet be official, if the people still get to hear it and love it you’ll still make a difference.
@Pilgile@extradeadjcb This doesn’t even assume that the people were righteous, just the they still had the infrastructure (ordinances, customs, rituals) that persisted from a time when they were guided by a prophet.
@Pilgile@extradeadjcb Totally.
I bet Josiah did reform a lot of stuff that needed purging.
The question (for an LDS audience) is whether this is the time that many of the plain and precious parts of the gospel were removed, including many temple ordinances.
@Pilgile@extradeadjcb Major caveat: I have not done primary research, so leaning heavily on Rev. Baker and https://t.co/cwXSIiLPRs
I think it’s a fruitful area, though
@Pilgile@extradeadjcb The compelling larger argument is that the Deuteronomists moved power away from all the temple ordinances and towards the “law”, not just removing “Wisdom” from the temple, but also Washing and Anointing, Sacred garments, new names, Passing through the veil into the presence, etc
