Congratulations to everyone who received honours at this week’s Investiture ceremonies, hosted by The Princess Royal at St James’s Palace. 🎖️
👷 The Reservicing Programme at Buckingham Palace means that a number of ceremonies are being held at St James’s for the first time since the pandemic.
A magical day for a once-in-a-lifetime moment! Being recognised with an OBE, an immense honour that I am proud to have shared with my family. My hope is it inspires more people from diverse socio-economic backgrounds like mine to serve our country.

Happy Vaisakhi!
On the 13 April 1699, Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji Maharaj created the Khalsa brotherhood (visualised here preparing the Amrit nectar to ordain the first 5 who stepped forward and gave their head to the Guru)
On this day 41 years ago… a good thread on the Sikh turban rights movement in Britain, which I’ve written extensively about in my book “Turbanology; Guide to Sikh Identity” @Turbanology
Cute, representative… but let’s not see our kids water down their Sikh identity in this way becoming a fashion trend. Cover your gutt, little brother! Tie a Dastaar or at least a ramaal, show your kes the respect SatGuru decreed 🙏🏽
Today in #Sikh History:
Jassa Singh Ahluwalia was selected as Jathedar by the Sarbat Khalsa at Sri Akal Takht Sahib. He was also bestowed the title of Nawab.
As Bandi Chor (liberator), he secured the release of thousands of enslaved people from Ahmad Shah Durrani’s clutches.
With Jassa Singh Ahluwalia’s leadership, courage, and collective Sikh strength, Sikhs were inspired to embrace the call of the Guru Khalsa Panth, confront tyranny, and become empowered to administer societal justice through unity.

@JSinghSohal@Turbanology 100% agree @JSinghSohal
We founded TSC to raise awareness and promote the image and importance of maintaining and respecting the turban and beard. To see that this is how some officers treat those with turbans/beards is shocking. There is much work to be done yet
“Stuff you say doesn’t happen in the Met”
Is what we have heard over & over again. & nothing gets done about it.
Well it’s here officially
One Sikh officer had his beard trimmed; while another had his turban put in a shoe box; and a Muslim officer found bacon in his boots
That a Sikh officer's beard was cut 'because it was funny' while another's turban put in a shoebox is outrageous! I worked to educate police on turban awareness via @turbanology and am appalled. The Met Police leadership need to change this culture ASAP

There's a debate on about Sikh turban wearers and helmets in the military. I've written books, made films and exhibitions about importance of Sikh turban identity via @Turbanology. But never shared this experience, from Ops... of finding a bit of frag in my Army turban! #IYKYK
@SikhPA @amritsmannz @SkyNews Jay Singh-Sohal was the first Sikh turban wearing journalist at Sky News, he did some presenting too. Many years on good to see Amrit Singh breaking into news, we wish him all the best may Guru Maharaj continue to guide his way
Wow! Check out 4 year old Sahib Singh who models for Burberry! Their first Sikh childrens model and the first to wear a patka! This will encourage Sikh children about their identity and importance of keeping our head and hair covered, as per our faith and traditions @Burberry
Bhai Sahib was one who experienced violence and race hate in Coventry because of his dastar (turban). He was one of the reasons we felt we needed to raise awareness and so created Turbanology. May his campaigning spirit and Gursikh jeevan continue to inspire others
Vaaheguru. We’re very sad to hear about the death of Gursikh and community activist Bhai Jagdeesh Singh. We worked with Bhai Sahib on many projects, raising awareness of Sikh turban identity and giving confidence to young Sikhs to be proud of their distinctness…
