My boomer dad told me to save 10% of my income for retirement.
Classic advice so, I did the math.
His 10% in 1985 on a $32,000 salary was $3,200 a year.
In today’s money that’s roughly $9,000.
My 10% on a $65,000 salary is $6,500 a year.
He saved more in real terms working a factory job than I save working a corporate one.
But that’s not even the worst part.
He had a pension on top of it.
I have a 401k that dropped 24% in 2022 and gave me anxiety attacks.
He saved 10% and retired comfortably at 61.
I save 10% and financial advisors tell me it’s not enough.
Same advice but completely different outcome and he still thinks the problem is that I don’t follow his advice closely enough.
It is hard to downplay the wealth transfer and liquidity event upcoming with the SpaceX IPO.
The rules were changed specifically for SpaceX to be included in the major indices before profitability and before extended public trading.
That means nearly half of all early SpaceX shares will be required to be bought by passive index funds (think QQQ, VOO, SPY, VTI).
The holders of these funds (401Ks, ETF holders, savers) will be auto-buying the SpaceX float, teeing up exit liquidity for Silicon Valley and Elon-adjacent insiders who own the majority of SpaceX shares and will be able to sell after 3 months.
This will be a major, major event for widening the already extreme wealth gap between insiders/elites and the rest of the world.
"The more homogenous our citizens can be made in these particulars [principles, opinions, and manners], the greater will be our prospect of permanent union."
-George Washington
Hard to blame humans for their carbon footprint when you are saying AI needs vast quantities of power and water resources.
Scam is no longer useful or defensible.
Travel is the dumbest activity. You don’t need to go anywhere. People pretend it’s about learning or seeing new cultures but it’s just burgers with a different background. Being well travelled actually made me appreciate the US way more. Just look at stuff on Google maps.
Trust in God's justice?
My brothers in Christ, we are God's justice.
We are commanded to be arbiters of justice in this world, and when that justice becomes perverse, are we not burdened with gravely serious responsibility to reclaim it?
It's not a matter of trusting in God's justice any more than it is to trust in his provision for the poor.
The Lord requires that WE feed them.
He commanded that.
What false piety it would be to sit and watch a poor man starve to death, self-righteously waiting on the hand of God to feed him when we had the means to do it ourselves.
We are the Lords hands and feet, after all.
In the same way, the Lord requires justice of us.
I understand that the battle belongs to the Lord, but sometimes you must swing the sword.
This over spiritualization of the matter is self-righteous pacifism at best and demonic subversion at worst.
Countless young girls have been raped and murdered because of appeasement, and when we stand before the Son of Man at our judgement, I do not think He will take kindly to our inaction.
Act accordingly.
The comments in this thread make it abundantly clear: The West wants a return to a religious ethno-state.
As they should.
Now listen, I think the idea that "race isn't a social construct, society is a racial construct" is false.
We used to be Germanic Barbarians roaming the Teutoburg forest.
We used to be Nordic Vikings who sailed the furious seas andPagan Celts who ruled Anatolia.
So what changed? Why did all of Europe advance at an exponential rate compared to almost every other part of the world?
The answer to that is in the path the Apostle Paul took in his journey across Asia and Macedonia in preaching the gospel. If you understand the profound impact Christianity had on Greco-Roman culture, you'll understand why the Crusades were waged 1,000 years later, why the Visigoths claimed themselves to be Christian and why the Reconquista of Hispania took place at all.
Europeans accepted the gospel of Christ and over countless generations the Word of God reshaped their culture, society, system of governance, and every other aspect of society entirely.
Race is not the cause of that success, but it is correlary in that a person's race is an indication of their culture in the vast majority of cases.
Do you know how long it takes to domesticate a wild animal?
The answer to that question reveals the principal cause of the German Christmas market attack.
It's that we shouldn't see his race solely as the cause of the attack and of his incompatibility with the West, but see it instead as an indication of his rearing in a primitive culture with a six thousand year history of violence and lawlessness and animosity towards Christendom.
Surely that rearing has a biological effect on a human being. If that is true, then a Christian culture could then have an opposite effect over a long period of time.
There is a fine line between understanding the value in having a religious ethno-state while still understanding that a nation who’s primary ideal is race can only achieve ethnic homogeneity as it’s ultimate accomplishment.
We must remember that a nation who’s primary ideal is the Lord will achieve homogeneity of beliefs, ideals, values, morals and ultimately, culture - while not forgetting that it took 2,000 years to achieve that homogenous state.
Opening the gates of our Toledo as we have, will ensure that such homogeneity will never exist again.
The purpose of a machine is what it does, after all.
God is not allowing His judgment to fall upon you.
If you are a follower of Christ, then His judgment has already been satisfied on the cross.
It may be, that why some of us are suffering right now, is that He is simply not walking with you.
I have seen men leave their families and wives for other women, and reject the calling on their lives for the pursuit of sensual gratification - and then act shocked when the consequence of their own actions falls upon them as if it were God's own judgment.
Listen, I could be wrong (I was once before) but I don't think that's God's judgment. I think it's Him simply removing His presence from our lives because we chose to walk another way.
I am reminded of when Joshua is marching his armies towards Jericho and sees the Angel of the Lord standing in the way, sword drawn.
"Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?"
The response given reveals the answer to most of the suffering in our lives.
“Neither,” he replied, “but as commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.”
The same point is illustrated in Adams banishing from the Garden; where the presence of the Lord creates an environment of prosperity and ease, and outside of his presence and outside the garden is pain and suffering, toil and sweat and blood.
You see, it's not a question of whether God is for us.
It is a question of whether or not we are for Him.
The same call he issued to his disciples is the same call he issues to you today.
"Come. Follow me."
To follow Him means to take up your cross, deny yourself and pursue the paths of righteousness.
It's a narrow road, but it's one that He has cleared and a path in which he goes before you.
To stray from that means to stray into the weeds, out of the garden and into the unforgiving and terrifying wild where you lack the protection of your father and your guide.
God doesn't issue his judgment and wrath upon believers in the same way that He doesn't condemn any man to hell.
We send ourselves.
Listen to me, please.
We send ourselves when we choose to go astray.
Life is hard.
I know, I am walking it with you.
It's full of suffering and hard lessons and tough times that push us beyond our abilities.
But know this.
If you walk with the Father and follow Him on the narrow road, He will lead you home.
I pray in Jesus name that those of you on the right path would be filled with the strength of the Holy Spirit to continue, and I pray that those of you who have wandered into the wilderness would come back home.
Listen closely.
Do you feel that?
That's his voice, calling out to you.
The father is waiting with open arms.
Having hailed vaccines as a major success of modern medicine, Dr Bret Weinstein is now embarrassed to admit that he has changed his position on childhood vaccines after deeper research.
‘I was shocked to discover the level at which the safety work simply had not been done. Which has now been acknowledged by one of the leading proponents
(Stanley Plotkin)…..
The mechanisms that are employed by vaccine manufacturers and the methods used to test or really to obscure safety signals make the products invalid from the get-go….
At the moment I discovered that we were using a trick to hyperactive the immune system in order to make the vaccine work my thought was how could that possibly be safe…. and what does that have to do with all the allergies we scratch our heads over.’
The antigen is non specific and can trigger the immune system to react to something that is not a pathogen like foods or something in the environment, causing life long allergies.
Derek Chauvin is serving 21 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit. Someone just tried to murder him. If they'd do this to him, they'd do it to you.
What you’re calling rehabilitation is mostly just people beginning to look at Hitler as a complex historical figure instead of a mythic demon. People have a deep paranoia over what might happen if people place Hitler on the shelf next to Caesar, Ghengis Khan, or Napoleon… even comparing him to Stalin or Mao makes people uncomfortable. Even your logic, Bret, seems to be: If people stop viewing Hitler as mythic demon, then genocide might happen. This is superstition, and is the same as someone fretting over what will happen if people stop believing in the devil. Anything set up as a sacred figure will attract a following (there have always been devil worshipers), and making Hitler into one has given his memory a power it never would’ve had if he was viewed through an adult lens, as an historical figure. A lifetime has passed since the war, and I know it seems closer for people directly affected by the events, but many of us are ready be adults about Hitler, the war, etc. Given that for most of a century it has been taboo to question any claim adding to the evil of Hitler and the Germans, or to make any claim that qualifies, mitigates, or relativizes their evil, it’s natural that most of the corrections would run in a direction that looks like rehabilitation.
