The people on my mind today: Josephine Butler, Walter Fauntroy, Hilda Mason, Julius Hobson, and the many other trailblazers of the statehood movement. May they rest in power. #DCstatehood#DCStatehoodNow
@EricRSammons Slight topic change, but didn’t Pope John XXIII’s Pacem in Terris already reevaluate just war theory in light of modern weaponry? Like…this isn’t really that new? Maybe I’m missing something.
You’re kidding yourself if you really think a curfew is what we need now when you’re cutting the services that give young people better options in the first place.
Like, let’s be serious.
Election Day is just two weeks away.
I’m supporting @Janeese4DC because she has the vision and will to challenge what's not working to move DC forward. I joined my friend in Ward 5 yesterday to make that case.
Join me in voting for progress on Election Day.

Capital Weather Gang, the weather blog that has been a part of the Washington Post for almost 20 years, is becoming an independent site and rebranding as Capital Weather.
Per a note to WaPo staff today, the site will still contribute to WaPo during major weather events.
The Pope is writing for the ages, not the immediate news cycle.
It’s fine to skip all analysis until you’ve had the chance to read it yourself at leisure and discuss it with friends and family.
“ethical discernment cannot be limited to asking whether we are using a system for good or bad purposes; it must also examine how that system is designed and what vision of the human person and society is embedded in the data and models that guide it.” - Pope Leo XIV
Amen!
I’ll play along again. Some valid points but cherry picking data without context.
1. Berlin system is diff than Metro…we are a subway-commuted combo, need to combine their systems.
2. Gas prices in Germany ~$7.70/gallon
3. $3B Nationally subsided fares for a $49/month
4.etc
I spoke with the @wmata bus driver who saved a kid's band recital yesterday when he personally returned a trumpet that had been left on the bus. More about this heartwarming story here:
@CityCast_DC
I have a beautiful @wmata story to tell.
My three sons take Metrobus to and from school together every day. Yesterday, one of them left his trumpet on the bus when getting off at home. Of course, tonight he has a band concert...🧵
Flash forward to a couple hours later this morning: I get a call from my child's school. A Metrobus operator had dropped a trumpet off at the school during his day off. He recognized my boys (because they ride all the time) & their uniforms, so he knew which school to bring it to
Thx you Melissa for sharing this heartwarming story highlighting one of our amazing Metro team members. So happy to hear the trumpet got returned to make the concert!
So proud of our operator who is serving our community with ❤️
We will be recognizing this amazing act.
