It’s sad to say, but this was an inevitable outcome for Taxiapp.

The app was born from a genuine need for the trade to reclaim control from the corporate platforms that had either pivoted to accommodate private hire or begun to undermine the regulated fare structure.

“The meter price prevails” was its mantra, and it was registered as a cooperative- a model built on fairness, transparency, and a shared passion. The subscription fee provided stability and allowed for honest fiscal planning.

However, in 2022 Taxiapp became a case study in what happens when naivety meets greed; when those involved - including newer influences - decided that principles no longer matter. Dedicated individuals who had volunteered their time from the start were alienated, and the drivers who sustained the initiative for years were vilified.

Therefore, Taxiapp didn’t die today; it perished the moment those in charge ceased to believe in the values that made it worth building, and betrayed the drivers who had financially supported it from the outset.
