@ChrisR_1122@electionsjoe The baby boomers are getting old and decrepit and can’t get out of the assisted living homes their in when it’s 20 degrees out?
@RGPuts@CMBarbee_ Incorrect. Not all physicians make a minimum of 250. I worked full time for as an attending and only made 195. And it’s not limitless money and most docs who are employed “full time” are still working more hours than your typical 40 hour work week.
@DaveDelecto@CMBarbee_ What a shit thing to say. Those of us who are first gen grads and want to help people, don’t have mommy and daddy bankrolling us through education. And it has nothing to do with poor finance management but high academics gouging students. Be better @DaveDelecto
Today marks the 20th anniversary of World Hospice and Palliative Care Day. The WHPCA is marking the day with the theme: "Achieving the Promise: Universal Access to Palliative Care."

Please tell me more about your cancer care when you ✂️ back your palliative care dept & let go the only FT palliative care doc. PC is proven to be EBM - not only improving QOL but also improving survival rate in patients with lung cancer. Disappointed in my hometown & Alma mater
@CMBarbee_ In the same boat. If they’re going to cap student loans then they need to cap how much can be charged for degrees and make it a reasonable price.
@gasbabe@CMBarbee_ I’m genuinely curious as about ur comment while there historically were many more challenges to being a DO rather than MD these are lessening - there still is some inequality but if someone’s dream is to be a doc and they value holistic approach to patients, DO is a good choice
@olsonplanner Oh definitely wait the year, work save some money. Your mental health will thank you. #Palliative Doc, first gen college grad, and 550k in debt…
@CMBarbee_ I’m gonna guess that they aren’t first gen college grads and come from well to do families or they’re taking out loans/using credit cards to pay for it. There’s a lot of inequality in medicine on both sides of the bed. Hang in there and please take care of yourself
@CMBarbee_ You have a right to be hurt. Try not to dwell on it though.
I thought I was close with my residency class of 8, 2 of 7 went to med school with me. They all regularly get together now & don’t invite me. Love the people who include you and if they don’t it’s their loss imo
@SalaryDr@jasonryanmd Or you can just live within your means & adjust. Not all of us want a million dollar home or the newest luxury car or to live in the most expensive cities. —someone who is 550k debt due to being first gen college grad and Pell grant recipient and very happy in my lower paying job
@CMBarbee_ Hi Dr. Barbee & welcome to Indiana! As someone who also didn’t match my # 1 for both residency and fellowship I know the disappointment that came with hearing that initial rejection. However, now on the other side of training I wouldn’t change a thing. I wish you all the best! 💙
