Emergency Physician with Toxicology. Former medical coordinator with @MSF in Palestine. Very slow PhD-er. Perennial itinerant. Mama. Happy Tassie transplant.
We are outraged after an Israeli drone strike almost hit 5 of our Palestinian and international staff on their way home from Nasser hospital in Khan Younis. As always, the Israeli authorities were notified about our movements and the vehicle was identifiable with an MSF logo.
This attack, which occurred on the afternoon of 20 November, killed 20 people and seriously injured 10 others according to the Ministry of Health. These indiscriminate attacks on civilians and healthcare must stop.
“Repeated security incidents in the humanitarian zone pose a real threat to the safety of our staff and patients and the continuity of our activities in Gaza. Humanitarian workers must be protected at all times,” says Caroline Seguin, MSF coordinator in Gaza.
A Tasmanian inquiry has confirmed what we've been saying in our clear the hospital logjam campaign.
Our hospitals need funding to increase capacity and improve performance, address exit block and expand measures to keep people out of hospital.

Our colleague Dr Mohammed Obeid has been detained by Israeli forces along with other medical staff from Kamal Adwan hospital in north Gaza.
We’ve officially requested information on his detention and call for his, and all medical staff's, protection.

🚨Israeli occupation forces opened fire on a Palestine Red Crescent ambulance despite prior coordination for its entry into #Jenin refugee camp. #NotATarget#IHL
I had a little cry watching the news tonight. Thousands of people marching through their towns in solidarity all over the country against the people who would seek to divide us.
As someone who arrived in the UK as a child refugee it means everything to see this allyship.

Thank you @AlisonSBarrett for this excellent report on our panel in Melbourne on how to have the courage to converse as a profession and hold space for others. #thisisourlane#silenceispolitical
Amid grim warnings on “beyond catastrophic” situation in Gaza, health sector has a vital role in advocacy, reports @AlisonSBarrett

@drjeremygoldin @mariamtokhi @drruthmitchell @KristinJBoyle @megangoldin I’m happy to listen to you. My DMs are open, feel free to contact me and we can set up a time for a call next week.
@drjeremygoldin @mariamtokhi @drruthmitchell @KristinJBoyle I see you trying to engage. I’m happy to talk with you Jeremy, if you would like to do that, let me know.
“I have never seen a mass casualty event like today [13 July] Every corner in the hospital was busy. Every space was occupied by the injured or bodies of the dead” says Dr Mohammed Abu Mughaiseeb, MSF deputy medical coordinator, working in Nasser hospital, Khan Younis, south Gaza
In Nov. 2023, intense shelling in #Gaza prevented thousands of Palestinians from safely leaving Al-Shifa Hospital.
In April 2024, the MSF team restarted the clinic. The team never stopped treating patients during what they describe as the most difficult days of their lives.
We are outraged and strongly condemn the killing of our colleague, Fadi Al-Wadiya, in an attack this morning in Gaza City.
The attack killed Fadi, along with 5 other people including 3 children, while he was cycling to work, near the MSF clinic where he was providing care.
@drjeremygoldin I think you may be unclear on what the event is about. This talk was protested and cancelled. This event is about how we all do better and mature the discussion as healthcare workers.
I had some reticence initially, probably due to fatigue after a difficult year, but the passion and drive of the women with me and in this essential conversation have lifted me up and I’m now super excited for the sequel:) #Wanel2#thisisourlane
