A #lowcarb diet can reverse #type2diabetes, but evidence is mounting that it also improves #type1diabetes. This new study that explored the role of #lowcarb diets on diabetes control in #type1diabetes concluded: "These preliminary findings suggest that a professionally supported LC diet may lead to improvements in markers of blood glucose control and quality of life with reduced exogenous insulin requirements and no evidence of increased hypoglycaemia or ketoacidosis risk in adults with T1D." That a low-carb diet isn't the standard of cure for T1DM is bizarre. https://t.co/fia4W6zfVg
I am a doctor who discussed lifestyle changes with nutrition & exercise. I am backed up by accredited dieticians such @TurtonJessica & her team who make up my staff. This proposal is ludicrous from “the Australian of the year”. It will ensure we will be a rarity rather than the norm which should be the case in a metabolically unwell society.
@MaureenStroud@DiscoStew66@kieron_rooney@Sydney_Uni@syd_health Thanks for your interest and support! It's novel in the sense that it is different to standard dietary recommendations for type 1 diabetes management. Low-carbohydrate diets were the original method for treating diabetes prior to the discovery of insulin.
Here we go! Ethics approved, trial registered https://t.co/lb9QjKUEf0
@TurtonJessica PhD Candidature final study is open for recruitment.
We are looking for 20 patients with #type1diabetes willing to explore a dietary intervention @Sydney_Uni with their current management plan
Adults with T1D are adhering to recommendations to consume 45-65%E from carbs, yet glycaemic control remains suboptimal. Current dietary advice for T1D is insufficient and alternative strategies, such as low-carb diets, require consideration. Full text: https://t.co/Tt7MqC7a9I
