For the new (school) year @mrbakerphysics has invited me to join the @TutorGroupThink team and we're launching a classroom (and firewall) friendly presentation version you can show your tutor group. Find it and bookmark it here: https://t.co/iXcBU4Dr0a
Are you having great conversations with your tutor group?
We post a new slide every day with an interesting topic to broaden their horizons and prompt debate.
Discussing future library with my tutees this morning, talk quickly turned to inheritance and what we leave for our children and grandchildren.
“That library will be nice,” said one “but we’d better make sure there’s a planet too.”
Which is probably the point.
Today on TutorGroupThink we look at the incredible life of Bettye Washington Greene, an absolute trailblazer.

It’s Bruce Willis’ birthday today.
Go fun with your tutor group and discuss his best movies. Alternatively go serious and discuss the challenges of caring for someone with dementia. Or best of all, do a little bit of both, because that’s life.

Today's TGT has an absolutely amazing photo of the Ribblehead Viaduct in Yorkshire and the Aurora Borealis. I’ve always found the aurora fascinating, but I think I find the viaduct even more awe inspiring than the northern lights.

Today is Sir Anish Kappor’s birthday. We explore his work and the Vantablack controversy in TGT. It’ll make for a thought-provoking discussion.

Today is Bobby McFerrin’s birthday. You remember him. He did that life advice song Don’t Worry Be Happy, that is like a class A ear worm.
Send your students into their day whistling…

Today is about a basketball record breaker who I hadn’t heard of until about 2 months ago. But the more and more I read about her, the more impressed I am. Tell your students about Caitlin Clark tomorrow.

34 years ago Voyager 1 turned its cameras back to Earth as it was leaving the solar system forever. That picture remains the most distant of Earth ever taken. In it the Earth is just a Pale Blue Dot. Show your tutees this incredible picture.

It’s February 29th! Did you know that for more than 1500 years instead of a 29th February, instead the Julian calendar just had February 24th, twice.
Ask your tutees which day they’d rerun and what they’re going to do with their bonus leap day?

Some questions for your class tomorrow:
Is album art art?
Does it matter now we stream everything?

Today's TGT celebrates the life of Maria Goeppert Mayer. The second female Nobel laureate in Physics who spent most of her career working for far less money than male scientists in her field. Have things changed for the better since her time?
