SIGNING | Telecom Namibia and Angola’s Gabinete de Gestão do Programa Espacial Nacional (GGPEN) have taken a significant step towards advancing regional digital connectivity following the signing of a Pilot Commercial Agreement for the utilisation of the Angosat-2 satellite platform during ANGOTIC 2026 in Luanda, Angola, on 11 June 2026. The agreement was signed by Telecom Namibia Chief Executive Officer, Dr Stanley Shanapinda, and GGPEN Director General, Dr Zolana João.

The agreement marks the transition from a successful proof-of-concept phase to a structured pilot aimed at evaluating the performance and commercial viability of Angosat-2 services. The partnership is expected to strengthen connectivity in remote and underserved areas, support key economic sectors, and enhance regional cooperation in the development of digital infrastructure across Southern Africa.

Dangote eyes oil, gas and phosphate investment in Namibia

Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has set his sights on potential investments in Namibia’s oil, gas, and phosphate industries, as part of his company’s broader ambitions to expand across the continent.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah at State House in Windhoek on Thursday, Dangote said Namibia presents attractive opportunities in the energy and fertiliser sectors.

“We built a refinery with a processing capacity of 650,000 barrels per day. In addition, we produce carbon black, LPG, and sulphate chips. Our fertiliser plant has a capacity of over 3 million tonnes, making it the second largest in the world in terms of output,” Dangote said.
