E.W. Niedermeyer

Author of Ludicrous: The Unvarnished Story of Tesla Motors. Co-host @TheAutonocast. Not sure how much more mobility innovation I can take. YMMV.

In 2015 I decided on a whim to check out Tesla's battery swap station that was earning the company 9 figures in California ZEV credits, and found it wasn't real. Instead Tesla was using diesel generators to charge cars. Here's how this changed my life 🧵

This is my last post ever on this platform. I'm sad about what happened here, but the choice to deactivate was easy. I am close to matching my follower count here on Bluesky, and it's superior in every way. Life is just better without Elon Musk! Find me at niedermeyer dot io 🫡

The reality of driverless mobility is here, and it's time to reboot the conversation.

I'm thrilled to announce the Ride AI Summit, this April 2 at Neuehouse Hollywood. Hosted by myself and @binarybits, and sponsored by @Waymo.

See you there!

I'm writing a book that will finally expose the decade-long deadly deception that props up of one of the world's largest fortunes. I expect the owner of this website won't be a fan. Follow me elsewhere for more updates.

Since there's a lot of confusion on this website: if you don't feel safe putting your 96 year old grandma in the backseat with nobody behind the wheel, it's not "Full Self-Driving."

Hope this helps! And huge thanks to @waymo for an incredible day of safe driverless rides in SF!

New pod dropped! @AlexRoy144 @kirstenkorosec and @Tweetermeyer chat about mounting AV skepticism and the UAW's resurgence.

I'll be moderating a panel of cyclists (some of whom happen to work for @Waymo) about sharing the road with AVs in San Francisco at this conference next week. Come down, say hi, and check out the latest eBikes and scooters. Hope to see you there!

Micromobility America is happening next week (Oct 19-20) in the SF Bay Area. We’re looking for a few volunteers to help make sure the event runs smoothly in exchange for a free ticket. Get in touch if you want to go behind the scenes with us.

New interview with @Tweetermeyer about SF’s landmark ruling to allow @Waymo and @Cruise to operate 24/7—or why urbanists should learn to stop worrying and love robotaxis.

Based on studies "the people that report being the most against Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) also self report that they know the least about how they work" - @Tweetermeyer

@Machplane cheers, see you over there

Just popping in here to remind you that this platform is garbage, and nobody should use it. From banning critics and throttling links to critical media, to the horrific tolerance of racism and CSAM, being here makes you complicit in all of it.

[E.W. Niedermeyer @Tweetermeyer]

@FlorasWagon I'm willing to be patient, but I get that not everybody is.

[E.W. Niedermeyer @Tweetermeyer]

@FlorasWagon I do feel a little like I'm leaving the movie just when it finally gets good, but I've also seen more of this movie than most people and feel OK walking out. Once Bluesky opens and federates it should provide a real alternative to corporate control of social.

[E.W. Niedermeyer @Tweetermeyer]

@RyanakaFlats Thanks for buying the book! I try to acknowledge that there are no good choices here. My preferred alternative has very few of the convos/news I look for on social, but the fundamentals are sound. We're in a moment of transition, I'm just sharing my values/preferences here

[E.W. Niedermeyer @Tweetermeyer]

@GreatPaul_Smith I don't, no. Knowing that an alternative exists where I can get a straight chrono feed of only accounts I follow, and where I have almost infinite choices in different kinds of feeds to follow, I can't buy into another Zuck algorithmic labyrinth. Insta is bad enough.

[E.W. Niedermeyer @Tweetermeyer]

@herrohansbrix If you enjoy fighting the simps, may St George keep and protect you in the good fight. It's the only good reason to be here, IMO. I did my tour of duty, and I don't have that fight in me anymore. Not on social media, anyway.

[E.W. Niedermeyer @Tweetermeyer]

I hope this is all just a terrible phase, that Twitter's lenders realize that Musk has lowered the value of this platform to below the ~$12b in debt they're holding, and that they need to step in. If so, I'll see you back here. If not, let's rebuild. The internet is too important

[E.W. Niedermeyer @Tweetermeyer]

In the meantime I have some invites to share with like-minded mutuals who want to kickstart auto/mobility discussion at bsky. Enquire within. I'm also blogging (though not in the last week, been busy) at https://t.co/M2V0L8NR0X.

[The Autonocast @TheAutonocast]

New episode now live: with @AlexRoy144 and @kirstenkorosec sweltering in the Arizona heat (and @Tweetermeyer staying smugly cool in Oregon), the gang discusses a wide variety of hot mobility tech topics, from EV preconditioning to charging policy.
