One year ago, Fulani Islamic terrorists stormed Yelwata, Nigeria, slaughtering more than 200 Christians.
Most were women and children sheltering at a local Catholic mission.
Today, we remember the martyrs. The world must not forget the Christian genocide in Nigeria.
I was having a zoom meeting when my daughter screamed. I have to pause to check on her.
Apparently my husband wanted bathing her because I was busy. She have just returned from school.
I shot both of them a daring glance and the house went quiet. My husband has been moody all day because I made a law never to bath any female child in our house.
He said I am making him a threat to his kids. Is there a better way to explain my reasons to him because I don't know how to start.
I did something today that truly gladdened my heart.
Someone I didn't know mistakenly sent money to my OPay account because my phone number and his differ by just one digit. The amount in question was 106,950.
I didn't waste a single moment before sending the money back; however, I firmly insisted on returning it directly to the exact account number from which it was wrongly sent, and he agreed to that.
My reason for insisting was simple but important: I was mindful of the possibility that the money could be proceeds of crime, and that the whole situation could be a setup ; where I unknowingly receive stolen funds and then transfer them to a different account, effectively acting as a money laundering middleman, only to get implicated in the end. Sending the money back to the same account it came from was my way of protecting myself while still doing the right thing.
The moment the transfer went through, I could hear the relief in his voice, and that made me genuinely happy. As it turned out, the money was not even his personal funds, it was meant for purchasing foodstuffs for the company he works for. So had I delayed or, worse, kept the money, it would not only have affected him personally but could have put him in serious trouble with his employer.
Knowing that I had saved him from such a potentially difficult situation made doing the right thing feel even more rewarding.
