SPARE ME THE FANCY ENGLISH: Prime Minister Dr Tjitunga Elijah Ngurare has renewed his call for reforms to Namibia’s housing finance system, warning that soaring property prices are placing homeownership beyond the reach of many young Namibians.
Speaking on the issue, Ngurare questioned why a vehicle worth N$2 million can typically be financed and fully paid off within five years, while a house of similar or even lower value often requires a repayment period of up to 20 years.
“No amount of good English will convince me as to why this is the case,” he said.
Addressing Bank of Namibia Governor Ebson Uanguta, Ngurare recalled discussions the two had held about a month ago and urged the central bank to intervene as a matter of urgency.
He argued that the current financing model continues to make homeownership unattainable for many citizens, particularly young people seeking to enter the property market.

A tragedy n difficult day. Everyday ever since. Sigh. They don't tell you what haunts you is the memories of the past, the absence in the present, and the loss of the plans of the future.
Deep sighs, repressed tears, I tremble without shaking
Today I echo @Josy_Ndili’s sentiments…
Dear @CoWMunicipality,
When are you finishing Havana 4way. It is very unsafe and unsanitary.
While at it, when are you establishing a Taxi Rank at Goreagab Okapale? People that can’t afford to pay double taxi fare are forced to long walk.
Minister of Gender and Child Welfare Emma Kantema said Namibia's Child Care and Protection Act now allows a mother in crisis to safely abandon her newborn at designated places like police stations, hospitals or schools without facing criminal charges, provided strict conditions are met.

Namibian Council for Property Valuers Profession
Until we take it seriously, we'll keep crying. Having Banks being the "sole" valuers of the properties they're financing will always leave the prices exposed to major exploitation. There is a need for Independent Valuers as that would stabilize the prices. Currently, valuations are one sided.
Some of the corn you will be having on your plate was harvested in Warmquelle, Sesfontein Constituency on a rather small project (~3ha) in a garden we helped set up over the years with overwhelming support from SHIVCO. To growth 🙏🏾
Your 32-day account is not an investment, and using it as an emergency fund is not a great idea either.
First, you are earning less interest than you could be getting in other low-risk options. Second, the whole point of an emergency fund is that you can access it instantly when life happens. With a 32-day account, you have to give notice before withdrawing, and if you take your money out before the due date, you get hit with penalty fees. That defeats the purpose entirely.
A much better option for an emergency fund is a money market fund or an income fund. You still get capital protection and low risk, but you also earn a better return, around 7 to 11 percent per year, and your money is accessible within 1 to 3 working days when you actually need it.
This is not financial advice, just something to think about as you build out your financial foundation
The Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security, Lucia Iipumbu, launched the public consultations on the draft Migration Bill, urging Namibians to actively shape the law that will govern migration in the country.
Speaking at the Oshana Regional Council Auditorium in Oshakati this morning, Iipumbu said the consultations mark a key step in modernising Namibia’s migration management framework to ensure it reflects current realities.
She urged Namibians to contribute to the draft bill in order for it to reflect the views of the people.

WATCH: Director General of the Anti-Corruption Commission, Paulus Noah, has warned that corruption is increasingly reflected in public officials attending workshops and training programmes unrelated to their duties, saying the practice is driven by personal gain and abuse of administrative powers.
Speaking in Rundu this morning during a stakeholder consultation on the draft National Anti-Corruption Strategy 2026–2030, Noah said some officials also favour associates when allocating training opportunities.
He said that while this conduct may not amount to criminal offenses, such conduct is still corruption in administrative terms, urging institutions to take action.

Things from your bank that can sometimes be a sign you are doing well financially or becoming more financially disciplined.
When your bank starts offering you an overdraft, a credit card, vehicle finance, or even pre-approved loans, it usually means your income patterns, account behaviour, and repayment history are looking healthy from the bank’s perspective.
But just because the bank offers you credit does not mean you should take it. Only take on debt when you genuinely need it and know you can manage it responsibly.

I just found a beautiful scripture: Isaiah 41:10.
There will always be trials and tribulations in life, but God will carry you through every storm in your life. And give you strength to make it, even when you feel like you can't.🤍
Namibian courts should sentence drunk and reckless drivers to hours of community service where they accompany paramedics to accident scenes and spend time assisting at mortuaries during the postmortems of road accident victims, so they can experience the real consequences of DUI.
