Anyone notice the timing of all of this European hate comes after weeks of European citizens loving the culture of the United States?
Listen the situation is unfortunate, but is it really worth starting an international incident over this?
@MaMoMVPY What does Balogun have to do with FIFA rescinding the card? The US team never appealed it to FIFA. You are blaming the wrong person and organization for this fiasco.
@dawg_days65_7@liabinkin I am not an expert enough to know whether or red card was legit or not. But it’s clear the VAR process and appeal process was / is screwed up. There is no clear consensus as to how or if a red card / VAR screw up can be appealed.
@OzSweeney4@purely_james@liabinkin What really sucks is I really started to really love this sport only to possibly have it tainted by this crap.
I hope this beautiful game does not suffer long term.
@purely_james@liabinkin The World Cup shouldn’t be political period regardless of what country is involved. FIFA is ultimately responsible, but the the perception is horrific. (FIFA gave Trump the first ever (and previously unknown) FIFA Peace prize so it’s easy to understand the perception).
@liabinkin “Makes it look bad”? Understatement of the year, I think.
This isn’t about Trump, it’s about the integrity of the game and destroying all goodwill the US built up to date.
Manipulating the system to win at all cost is a terrible look.
@MazaComm The worst part of this whole episode is Trump’s involvement in this. What an embarrassment to my country and FIFA. Is there an actual FIFA rule that requires a country be dismissed if politicals get involved during the Worls Cup?
@Fac515@callmebigboye@MarioNawfal FIFA needs to review VAR after the World Cup. But the suspension should stand. Improper officiating has always been part of professional sports. You deal with it.
I am an American, and in order to uphold the integrity of the game #USMNT should hold out #Balogun from the game. While VAR procedures were apparently violated, the appearance of political interference can’t be tolerated.
@callmebigboye@Fac515@MarioNawfal The whole thing is now fucked up. President Trump apparently called FIFA asking them to review. Regardless of the calls impact, this is a terrible look. As an American the US should hold him out of the game to preserve the integrity of the game.
@stoolpresidente If the VAR judge was from Venezuela, would it not be a conflict (or at least a perception) to have someone from a country that was subject to recent military action to be a judge in a WC game?
@stoolpresidente The red card was probably legit, except for the standard being consistently applied. However, the bigger problem is whether VAR protocols were implemented correctly
Also, I had heard that the VAR judge that game was from Venezuela. Is that true?
