What you soon learn with guitar, weapons, field outfitting, horseback riding, studio engineering, analytics, or travel is that - no matter your years of practice or depth of qualification - to many pundits you are still doing it wrong. They crave hovering about to instruct everyone on how to do it right.

Just walk into any craft or specialty store and begin to fiddle about. They will soon emerge.

There are so many of these experts available that you begin to wonder whether the world is simply flush with 'expertise.'

The artist, by contrast, is keenly aware that there is most often no single correct answer - and in his silence refuses to lead another where instruction is unnecessary or even stifling.

A consequence of this is that the artist in philosophy also understands that debunking and trivial critique are common stage acts, apt to deceive the magician far more than they enlighten.

A rarer talent still lies in the ability to craft novel coherence - to frame the familiar anew, to step beyond the pastiche - into a horizon of apprehension that is elegant, even beautiful, in art, in form, and in structure.

Be wary of noisy experts. They are often blind to their own weaknesses - and deaf to the strengths of authenticity.

The work must speak where the instruction can not.

These are bad examples

If I told my kid "many kids go to the playground therefore you should go" this would be fallacious.

If instead I said "most kids that go to the playground have a blast, therefore you should go" The unspoken assertion is that "you will likely have a blast too" and that's perfectly reasonable.

An uncharitable interpretation of the unspoken assertion would be "you are guaranteed to have a blast", but this is not a reasonable/charitable assumption.

Most of this video is just taking the most uncharitable reading of the unspoken assertions. There are much better examples that could be used.

The bakery doing well after she showed up points to a very reasonable suspicion that she has something to do with it. If you take the least charitable interpretation that his unspoken assertion is that "because one preceded the other therefore one for sure caused the other" then you could invoke the fallacy, but not as it currently stands.

Prayers are a peculiar thing. I have made countless in my life, yet it took some living to realise I did not know how to pray, how to ask for that which aligns.

When I was young, I thought I knew better. I defined wishes with ritualistic precision, scaffolded them with rigidity in my prayers because I did not trust divinity. I took time to shape them carefully with words, shaded the corners carefully, dotted the i's, crossed the t's, and gave j's a curled cursive, squeezed my eyes tight and placed my forehead to the floor for a few seconds longer.

My prayers were answered, yet when they were, I discovered that what I had prayed for was never what my soul needed. I would feel deep gratitude for their arrival, yet for some reason they tasted of ash in my mouth, lacked vibrancy, and did not ignite fervour in my soul. I would persist, yet struggled and felt deep harrowing shame and guilt, because I thought I should be more grateful, but what arrived always felt like it did not belong with me. It felt off, as though I were trying to resuscitate a corpse. Hadn't I wished for it? Hadn't I curated it with such tenderness?

Then I realised the genius of prayer is a paradox, a playful little game, because the divine teaches us to see with more aperture. Like love, when you look, when you restrict, when you define - you receive mirages, detours, false idols, because rigid wishes often consist of constructs that were never yours to begin with.

Thus the trick is to desire that which is yours with the purest of intentions, with full sincerity, yet hold and sit with the desire without needing to define it - knowing not to look. And in doing so, the divine looks for you, and brings answered prayers you could never have put into words, ones that unfurl unexpectedly and reveal themselves to meet the quiet whispers of inner truths that have not yet taken full conscious form, yet you've felt in your soul and kept to yourself, or reluctant resignations you'd secretly held onto with an inkling of hope. And you begin to comprehend what miracles mean.

And now I pray with openness. I live with trust in God as I go forth in my life, so my once-tightened grip loosens with knowing. And because I have, I remember the beauty of blowing dandelions and the levity in moments of sharing a swing with a kindred soul. In childlike wonder, I have learnt to love the beauty of life in the present, because I trust that which resonates will join me, accept my energetic invitation, in service of the same.

A dental student in 2012 gave me her textbook and its chapter on the pathogenesis of dental caries begun by explaining that dentin is continuously undergoing mineralization a demineralization. Without explaining anything about what promoted mineralization — that is, nutrition — it said that demineralization is caused by S mutans and the reason dental cavities hasn’t been cured yet is we haven’t come up with a vaccine for S mutans.

I laughed out loud when I read this!

How completely out of touch is modern dentistry with the founders of its field?

Science is in its own dark ages. The glory ages were the first half of the 20th century, and WWII to 1970 were a blow off top in big efforts with, for example, 8-year long double blind randomized controlled trials of nutrition and then they just gave up in a pathetic rat race chasing after grants, low-quality high-impact publications, and chances to share in patents with their university administrator and corporate overlords.

Anyway now they came up with a vaccine and a genetically engineered form of S mutans that didn’t produce acid, the latter with some potential risk of blindness.

These people live in superstition.

Seeing lots of opinions on this. Here’s mine. If I pass before my husband? I want him to find love again, to be happy, to live a joyful life. It’s not like anyone will ever replace me. I am glad for them. I hope they have a beautiful, joyful, love filled marriage.

I’m not the grief police. I’m not here to determine for any other soul just how long is acceptable for them to be devastated before they pick up the pieces and rebuild a new chapter. I’m happy two people found one another and can be two more lights in the world, stronger together.
