JUST IN: The man who stopped the school shooting in Bend, Oregon, has been identified as 36-year-old Kalub Giamanco.
Giamanco, a carpenter, was reportedly driving home for lunch when he heard gunshots.
After hearing the gunshots, Giamanco, who has a concealed carry permit, followed the suspect into the school.
He then shot and killed 16-year-old John J Griffin moments after the teen opened fire into a special education classroom.
Giamanco, who has two children of his own who attend the school, is family friends with one of the victims, a 7-year-old who uses a wheelchair and was shot in the face.
The 7-year-old survived and is in the hospital.
Three children at Silver Rail Elementary School were killed. Their ages are 5, 8, and 11.
According to Giamanco's brother, Giamanco doesn't feel like a hero because he feels guilty for not being able to save more children.
You are a hero, Kalub.
@jonathan_denson@TheMetsX Should have thrown two flags on him. One for him hitting Williams and one for hitting his own player. Good gracious. Off setting penalties lol.
The attempted crashing of Tel Aviv-bound Flydubai Flight FZ1073 is the latest reminder of Islamist extremists' decades-long focus on civilian aviation.
Al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four American airliners on 9/11 and killed nearly 3,000 people.
Months later, Al Qaeda member Richard Reid, who converted to Islam, attempted to destroy an American Airlines flight with explosives hidden in his shoes.
In 2006, British authorities disrupted an Islamist plot to simultaneously destroy multiple transatlantic aircraft using liquid explosives.
In 2009, al-Qaeda-trained Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab attempted to bomb Northwest Flight 253 as it approached Detroit with 290 people aboard.
The threat has repeatedly crossed borders, airlines and continents: perpetrators have targeted American carriers, transatlantic routes and now a passenger jet flying to Israel.
European and other Western governments cannot treat aviation terrorism as a threat confined to another country or another era. Islamist terrorism remains a transnational security threat capable of crossing borders and targeting civilians, transportation networks, and public spaces.
