Best advice I think I got in religious formation so far was this: Stop trying to be St. Francis. The world doesn't need another St. Francis. It already got one. The world needs you.

1) “I have seen everything that is done under the sun, & what vanity it all is, what chasing of the wind! Naked from his mother’s womb a man comes; as naked as he comes he will depart again, nothing to take away with him”. Qoheleth 1:14, 5:14
“If a brother or sister has nothing to wear & has no food for the day, & one of you says to them, “Go in peace, keep warm, & eat well,” but you do not give them the necessities of the body, what good is it? So also faith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead.”
Jm 2:13-17
Most days I feel like the rich young man in the gospels. I want to follow God, but I go away sad because I cling to so many things and refuse to let them go.
I sympathize with this view, and I don't pretend to know what it's like to be excluded from these ministries in the church. Pope Francis is balancing the problem of clericalism and the realization of the laity's full incorporation into the leadership of the church.
The language of concern about "clericalizing women" and thus "reducing them to functionality" is nearly identical to early 19th C language discouraging women from working outside of the home. 1/
This might be the most important section in the entire document. Pope Francis is in dialogue with the synod, and does not presume to replace or ignore it. As he says, the document is a "dialogue and discernment." #QueridaAmazonía
#QueridaAmazonia calls the laity, especially women, to leadership roles in the church, warns against the over-clericalization of the church's leadership, draws attention to the ecological crisis in the Amazon, and welcomes inculturation of indigenous communities.
If you read #QueridaAmazonía and all you got out of it was something about priestly celibacy, you probably didn't read the document or don't actually care.
In a highly significant move, Francis “officially” presents the synod’s final document, which includes the synod’s hot-button issues, to the Catholic Church worldwide. Read more by @gerryorome. #QueridaAmazonia
