Brady Cerkownyk
In 14 games at Rookie Ball the Toronto-native is hitting .357/.472, with 1 homer and a 1.115 OPS
Small sample size but a strong start for the #Nationals catching prospect
Here is my 6th instalment of Canadian minor leaguers. If you missed it the last few weeks, I will be looking at 3🇨🇦minor leaguers that are having success in 2026
I’m going to try to cover as many different provinces as possible 🧵
Thomas Ireland
The first player on my list from Saskatchewan, Ireland has looked stellar at Triple-A for the #Rangers this year
He has a 2.89 ERA, with a 10.9 strikeout/9 in relief
2021 was the last time a Saskatchewan-born player played in the Majors (Andrew Albers)
But there may be another🇨🇦on the way (not Adam Hall). Brendan Lawson is currently having a monster collegiate season and some have him projected as the 1st overall pick in 2027
He’d still be a number of years from the majors but we could soon be in the golden age of🇨🇦shortstops
In 2020, I wrote a blog about the underwhelming history of Canadian shortstops
In the article I noted, this might change with 2 exciting young🇨🇦shortstops in the minors - Adam Hall and Otto Lopez
Here’s a brief look at the history of🇨🇦shortstops 🧵
Otto Lopez has already established himself as one of the better shortstops in the League and if his career keeps up at this pace, he could pass Arthur Irwin and Smith on the all-time 🇨🇦shortstops list soon enough
Currently on pace to become only the 5th🇨🇦with a 200-hit season
The last time an Albertan started a game for the #BlueJays was August 6, 2013 when Josh Johnson (his Dad is Albertan) pitched 5 scoreless in what would be his last MLB start
Matt Coutney
The Albertan infielder has never pushed past Double-A in his career but at 26, he may be at a career crossroads
He’s batting .281/.397, with 4 homers and is currently in the #Angels system
Here is my 5th instalment of Canadian minor leaguers. If you missed it the last few weeks, I will be looking at 3🇨🇦minor leaguers that are having success in 2026
I’m going to try to cover as many different provinces as possible 🧵
Owen Gregg
The #BlueJays infield prospect has only played 13 games so far in his professional career but he is hitting .424/.486 with 4 steals
It’s a small sample and is at Single-A but not a bad start for the undrafted Oakville-native
Brendan Lawson
Okay, not a minor league player but a collegiate player turning a lot of heads. The Toronto-native is hitting .309/.519, with 15 homers and 16 steals in 51 games for the Florida Gators
There is a case to made he could go 1st overall in the 2027 Draft
Here is my 4th instalment of Canadian minor leaguers ballplayers. If you missed it the last few weeks, I will be looking at 3🇨🇦minor leaguers that are having success in 2026
I’m going to try to cover as many different provinces as possible 🧵
Cam Leiter Jr.
The American #Dodgers prospect spent some of his youth living in Canada and would be eligible to play for🇨🇦in the future and yes he is part of that Leiter family
In his 1st pro-season he has a 2.40 ERA and 13.2 K/9 at Single-A
