@Benefitsguynick Thought about it.
Main issue is my main service area is somewhat rural so most competitors are self employed, with family members working for themselves.
Employees of bigger companies in the city (~35 mins from main area) don’t want to travel outside of it to work
How is everyone finding employees?
Booked out more than I like and turning away new leads but cannot find candidates to interview, let alone hire
Tried Indeed, Facebook groups, posters at suppliers. Nothing.
Offering above average wage since we’re somewhat rural but no luck
@Benefitsguynick Have a system like that in place, nothing has come from it
Common feedback is “everyone we would refer already has a career they like in a different industry, anyone that doesn’t, well we don’t want them to work with us”
Which I guess means we have a decent company culture
@contractorkeith Employees, subs in my area are lacking in quality control…
Average for my area is $20-$22 for green (depending on if you have other construction experience) and $35-$45 for experienced or crew leads
@lgsguy Never thought of using Facebook ads. My issue is I’m somewhat rural compared to most (~20 mins out of big city), and do mostly Reno’s while most want to do only new construction that do apply
Don’t think I’ve ever seen 100% forecasted rain before.
Sucks to lose the working days but my phone always blows up with quote requests for new gutters so can’t complain 🤷♂️
Told by GC to put our downspouts wherever necessary to account for the building being out of level.
Homeowner then screamed at us when she came home as we were cleaning up because “they aren’t where I assumed they go”
I asked if she told anyone where she wanted them.
“No”
I guess it’s more of a requirement then a suggestion when they say to re-torque your lug nuts
Managed to find them all about a block down the road from where the tire flew off.
Fridays man…
I’m one of the only companies in my industry/area that takes credit cards
99% of customers pay by E-Transfer/cheque.
I charge 2.4% for CC transactions (allowed by provincial law) and make the fee very clear.
100% of CC uses complain about not knowing about the fee beforehand
One day I’ll remember to buy plastic utensils in my truck to use if I forget to bring real ones to eat my lunch with.
Today is not that day though so I might a spoon out of scrap again 🤷♂️
