⚖️ Texas just passed a major solar reform bill.
SB 1036 — the Residential Solar Retailer Regulatory Act — is headed to the governor’s desk.
It hasn’t made headlines yet, but it should. Here’s why it matters for installers, lenders, and software platforms ↓
2) Pro: there is a bus that will get you downtown from the airport in 45 mins.
Con: No way to pay for the bus via credit card or app. Driver said cash only? But he was nice enough to let me on.
Making payment easy has got to be one of the quickest ways to increase ridership.
I’m running a quick 3-minute survey to understand how:
• Installers
• Sales teams
• Lenders
• Solar software platforms

Then comes 2026:
• Mandatory licensing for all solar sales & install staff
• Required liability insurance
• Fines up to $100,000 for violations involving seniors
This is a real compliance shift. Texas solar won't look the same two years from now.

First changes hit Sept 1, 2025:
• 5-business-day cancellation window
• Licensed electrical contractor must be named
• Installer must handle all permitting + interconnection
• New TDLR disclosure format
• Sales teams must follow a code of conduct
I’ve spoken with hundreds of Texas solar homeowners who were promised “zero dollar bills.”
So a consumer protection bill? Not too surprising.
What is surprising?
It passed 100–36 in the TX House. In a state big on personal responsibility, that says a lot.
