The most important part of wrist fixation is restoring the DRUJ. The inability to do so can result in ulnar-sided wrist pain, restricted motion, and instability. #TriMed's proprietary technology allows surgeons to easily bring the distal radius out to length and restore the #DRUJ
Keep a growth mindset. Always be willing to learn. Fortunate to have the opportunity to expand my knowledge, approach, and ability to tackle complex distal radius fractures with this one-on-one session with Dr. Medoff. @UMichSurgery@Tyler_TriMed
@orthotraumamd@JofOrthoTrauma@rkh_md@traumaticum Love to hear others thoughts on that question! My indications continue to evolve, but rarely use in isolation. More often use in combination with additional implants (fragment specific plates or even k-wires; also cancellous bone graft) supporting articular fragments.
Finishing out the year with a TriMed Lab on #distalradiusfixation at the @UW ! We appreciate the faculty, staff, and attendees that made this workshop a success. We hope to build our network with you all next year. Cheers🤙!

We would like to extend our gratitude to the faculty, fellows, and residents from UCI and UCLA for joining us at our CA Fellows Course last week. We hope that we were able to provide you with some meaningful insight and valuable hands-on instructions.

A TriMed Volar Bearing Plate was used to treat this Distal Radius Fracture.

Love the dorsal tangential view with wrist extension. AKA the ‘DRUJ’ view.
Shows the dorsal profile (to check screws are not too long) and also shows the DRUJ congruity, makes sure there is no step (or screw) in the Sigmoid notch.
Avoid extensor tendon irritation in distal radius volar plating cases by using unicortical locking screws that traverse only 75% of the length of the distal radius.
#Orthotwitter#Distalradius#VolarPlate
Benefits found in a study by Liu et al.
- Minimized risk for extensor tendon irritation
- Early stability for osteoporotic patients
- Construct has similar average stiffness as bicortical screws #orthotwitter
🦴🦴🦴The most reliable indicator of instability in distal radius fractures is age. Studies by Mackenney et al. Showed that closed reduction of distal radius fractures failed in 53 of 60 wrists, 75% within the first week of reduction. #orthotwitter#handsurgery#TriMed
Patient factors play a key role in the treatment of distal radius fractures. When patients are not able to tolerate prolonged immobilization for personal or professional reasons internal fixation allows for the early mobilization necessary to get back to daily life. #orthotwitter
