Five Recommendations for Nigerian Protesters

1. Establish Clear Leadership: Ensure you have strong leadership that provides clear directives. Without leadership, there is no movement. If you're concerned about the safety of your leaders, there's no need to reveal their names. Make sure the microphone is held by one person, and do not allow anyone to speak or give instructions without the leader's approval.

2. Articulate Specific Demands: Clearly outline your demands; for example (1) Restore the Fuel Subsidy, (2) Reinstate the Naira Subsidy, etc. Avoid vague or unmeasurable demands like (1) End Corruption or (2) Stop Bad Governance. These issues cannot be resolved immediately and can distract you from achievable goals.

3. Follow Laws and Maintain Order: On the day of the protest, ensure you adhere to laws and regulations. Instruct everyone participating not to damage property or harm anyone. Vandalism and destruction of public or private property are not forms of protest; they are acts of disorder and arson. If anyone joins with weapons or destructive items, apprehend them and hand them over to the authorities.

4. Pace the Protests: Sustained protests without breaks can lead to fatigue and people need time to work or attend school. Designate one or two days per week for protests, allowing participants to return to their routines on the remaining days.

5. Conclude When Goals Are Achieved: Once you achieve your objectives, end the protest. Do not let anyone deceive you into continuing with new demands. For example, anyone who says not to stop protesting until President Tinubu resigns is merely trying to deceive you. President Tinubu is the elected leader of Nigeria and the Constitution grants him the right to serve his term. Demanding his resignation is illegal and disrupts peace. Quit while you are ahead.

By following these recommendations, you can ensure your protests are effective, lawful and focused on achieving your goals.
