♻️🔋 Huge congratulations to UCD Mechanical Engineering students Ruairí Collins, Eoin Duffy and Stephen Murphy on winning the second annual CleanerGrid Competition for their proposal showing how pumped hydro energy storage could help with managing wind and solar energy variability.
The Todhchaí Glas team claimed the top prize, taking home €6,000 for their team and €6,000 for the university.
Run by EirGrid, Ireland’s electricity grid operator, the competition encourages third-level students to solve critical energy challenges with a focus on sustainability, efficiency and clean energy technologies.
This year’s theme asked students to present a vision of what the growing energy sector will need to look like in 2050 to have sustainably achieved net-zero emissions.
How to select features for defects in wind turbine blades? Compare performance of data driven methods? Excellent work by Mohadeseh Ashkarkalaei, Ramin Ghiasi, Abdollah Malekjafarian.
