Every third Thursday in October, millions of people worldwide participate in the Great ShakeOut earthquake drill.
On October 21st at 10:21 am:
1. Listen for the Overhead announcements
2. DROP, COVER, and HOLD ON.
3. Review with the team ways you can prepare for an earthquake.
We won’t know when the next big earthquake will occur, but we can prepare for it.
- Practice Drop, Cover and Hold
- Make a family communication plan
- Tell the family to post their safety status on the American Red Cross Safe and Well website or social media during an emergency
What would you do if you had a few seconds to prepare for an earthquake?
- If you’re in a high-rise building, do not use elevators.
- If you’re in a vehicle, pull over and stop. Set your parking brake. If possible, keep away from buildings, trees, and utility poles.
