This morning we declared a Critical Incident due significant and rising demand for hospital care.
If you have a very serious or life-threatening emergency, we are here for you, but otherwise, if you need urgent care, we ask you please to call NHS 111 or use NHS 111 online.
In an insightful interview, we spoke with the Director of Practice and Development at @thecsp, and Pain Specialist Physiotherapist Jackie Walumbe, to discuss #physiotherapy for #PainManagement and how the CSP supports healthcare professionals

This time next week @thecsp members and @thecspstudents will be in Manchester for #CSPARC24
As one of the Regional Stewards for the South West I’ll be leading our delegation as we debate motions on multiple issues, both profession and Trade Union focused, including #AdvancedPractice, #WorkforceIssues, #SupportingDiversity and #FinancialIssues
With motions coming from and being debated by members it’s an important piece of the democratic puzzle that makes up the CSP
If fortunate enough to be elected onto #CSPCouncil I will work to ensure that
- Members continue to feel their voices are heard
- The organisation acts in a manner that is financially sound
- When decisions are made that have a direct impact on members, for example subscription rises, the rationale for the decisions taken are clearly explained to members

🕔 It's been a busy day today...
💪It started with the joint @PhysioNGRS & @NGRSR1 meeting in which we discussed preparations for #CSPARC24, including our Fringe meetings
🗳 Then I had the opportunity to speak with colleagues and local @thecsp members about the #CSPCouncil elections and why it's important to ensure votes are cast
🛡 Then this afternoon was spent preparing for the launch of our latest @UHP_Parkinsons service improvement. Less than 24 hours to go until we get to induct our first cohort of @UHP_NHS Parkinson's Champions!

My #CSPCouncilElection statement and video
I became a member of the CSP back in 2008 when I was a student physiotherapist. Inspired by the physiotherapy my Aunt received following a Stroke, it was the receipt of a Christmas card that she wrote during a Physiotherapy session that spurred me on to complete my studies.
Since qualifying I’ve worked clinically in both the Community and Acute sectors, managed staff across medical and Elderly Care wards and co-led Therapies provision for ICU and medical patients during the first and second waves of Covid. I enjoy being a practice educator and supporting students at all stages of their respective study. In my current role as a Parkinson’s Specialist Practitioner I work alongside the wider MDT across the patient pathway to support People with Parkinson’s. This also includes medication management, having completed my Non-Medical Prescribing course.
As an active Regional Steward I support members locally within my Trust, other stewards throughout the South West and hold a strategic role on the National Group of Regional Stewards. As an active trade unionist, I am passionate about ensuring members’ voices are heard and have supported members to attend the Annual Representatives Conference (ARC) and have myself presented motions at both ARC and the Trades Union Congress. This has included speaking up on issues including workers’ rights in Dubai and calling for better funding for mental health services.
Outside of my role in the NHS I am a visiting lecturer at two universities, teaching on the Physiotherapy and Non-Medical Prescribing courses. This has allowed me to maintain a working knowledge of the current challenges faced by students, educators and educational bodies. I am also active on X, @physio_rob, where I try to keep abreast of the latest news and professional issues across all healthcare settings.
If fortunate enough to be elected to CSP Council I will continue to ensure that member views are represented from across the profession, at all levels. At the same time, I will work with the CSP staff and other Council members to ensure the organisation continues to support the development of the profession and its members.

Today sees the start of voting in the #CSPCouncilElections (Until 5pm 1st July)
Last weekend I was with my family on Plymouth Barbican and came across this scene
I couldn’t help but notice the symbolism of what was in front of me and draw parallels with the recent introduction of anti Trade Unions in the UK and the attitude of the UK Government towards unions in pay negotiations ⛔️
If elected on to Council I will continue to fight for the rights of our members, their families, their patients and their communities
After all aren’t Freedom and Justice worth fighting for?
🗳️ #Physio_Rob4Council
Skills I can bring to council…
Negotiation - appearances can be deceptive. In this picture is what appears to be a sweet, loving 2 year old. The reality is she’s a smart, sassy, strong minded and at times hostile negotiator who sets unrealistic and unachievable goals
Recent successful negotiations have included
- Agreeing to eat all the broccoli 🥦
- Agreeing to paint on the paper and not the walls or dog 🐶
- Accepting it’s necessary to tidy up her toys before bed 🧸
Ongoing, longer term negotiations include
- Agreement of the parameters appropriate to wear a rain coat 🧥
- Increasing the length of time she wears her sun hat 👒

In addition to the General Election it’ll also soon be time to vote in the #CSPCouncilElections 🗳️
Our members have faced many challenges over the last 14 years and as we look to the future we need a Council that members feel understands their needs and challenges
As an activist and Steward of 10 years I am passionate about making sure members are represented, no matter their characteristics, background or experience.
And this is one of the reasons why I hope you’ll vote for me.
#Physio_Rob4Council
One of our Stewards is standing for election onto @thecsp Council 👏

Having been an active Steward for over a decade I am proud to have supported and represented members from all backgrounds and am passionate about ensuring this continues to be the case at all levels within our professional and trade body
