Hello! We are University of Iowa students with Scholars at Risk, advocating for the academic freedom of intellectuals around the world. Our team is focusing on Uyghur intellectuals in China, many of whom face imprisonment or harm because of their studies and beliefs.
The international community needs to come together and speak out against China's treatment of Uyghurs and work together to protect and preserve Uyghur culture #UIowaSAR
It's important to remember on this day dedicated to celebrating Uyghur culture, that there are thousands of Uyghurs in Xinjiang that are unable to take part and honor their own culture. Uyghur culture is consistently suppressed by the Chinese government
Today marks International #UyghurDoppa Day, a day dedicated to celebrating and honoring Uyghur culture and development. Our team wishes everyone a very happy #UyghurDoppa Day!
Scholars at Risk remains steadfast in our mission to protect threatened scholars and promote academic freedom. By taking part in #GivingTuesdayNow you help ensure our work continues during these uncertain times. We are grateful for your support. https://t.co/XNIGKFpMVL
"There are 2400+ Uyghur families in Turkey alone who need our support. Every dollar counts. They're relying on you."
Support this @LaunchGood campaign this Ramadan for Uyghur families with food packages, aid for living costs, medical fees, and clothing.

Read the @UyghurProject's Explainer on the #HearUyghurs campaign from members of the Uyghur diaspora, frustrated by the pitiful response from the international community: https://t.co/0YR6la1ZyF
The Chinese govt continues to eradicate Uyghur culture.
Much of this takes place within a larger context of China's extensive assimilation campaign stretching back decades.
Our team has shared that the meetings with Iowan Senators went very well! Both seemed very interested in helping our scholars and the Uyghur population. We hope this is the first step towards US officials speaking out against the situation in Xinjiang.
With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we know it is now more important than ever to advocate on behalf of Uyghurs and intellectuals. They are being persecuted and left some of the most vulnerable to COVID-19. #ProtectIntellectuals#UIowaSAR
Today, members of our team were able to meet with Senators Grassley and Ernst to work on behalf of the Uyghur people in Xinjiang. We look forward to sharing with you all the results of these meetings!
China being on the UN Human Rights Council also destroys the hope of appointing a Special Rapporteur on the Uighurs, while Uighurs still languish in camps and prisons and suffer one of the world's worst human rights violations #VetoChinaUN via @SaveUighurUS
After firing Uyghur teachers en mass, and detaining many Uyghur intellectuals, China plans to send Han teachers to Xinjiang as "aid." This continuous attempt to erase the Uyghur culture must not stand. Uyghur intellectuals must be released now #ProtectIntellectuals#UIowaSAR
China's “Plan to Aid Tibet and Xinjiang with 10,000 Teachers” amounts to clear assimilationist intentions.
“This is the final step for them to make this land their own […] It’s an issue of eliminating an entire ethnic group,” says @MemetTohti.

The Chinese government has reported a decline in confirmed cases of COVID-19, yet a media blackout of the internment camps in Xinjiang persists. With no information coming out from Xinjiang, the true situation of COVID-19 in China is unknown.
Uyghur culture and identity are in danger of being erased in China. Scholars Jalaleddin and Tohti worked to preserve it and were targetted for that work. We advocate for their release, and for the protection of Uyghur culture. #UIowaSAR#ProtectIntellectuals
This is not a wedding ceremony, it is a show of evil power, discrimination and hatred.
Uyghur has it’s own traditional wedding ceremony; which lasted for thousand years.
Forcing Uyghur accept Chinese traditional wedding, is an insult and discrimination.

Multiple news outlets report China allegedly forcing Uyghurs into labor camps. They work under terrible conditions, amplified by the dangers of COVID-19. For everyone's safety, China must release all Uyghurs immediately!

According to Chinese officials, the #XUAR has 76 #COVID19 cases and 3 deaths; however, #Uyghurs abroad are concerned about the fate of those held in re-education camps, including prominent academic and writer #AbdulqadirJalaleddin: https://t.co/iqnDuBTmMV

I'll be supporting this protest and I hope you do too.
Solidarity with the Uyghur people's struggle for freedom. Companies like Apple must audit their supply chains and cut all ties with these forced labour programmes.
