Sir Keir Starmer��s plan to release prisoners early could be of ‘net detriment to public safety’ and risks undermining confidence in policing and criminal justice, the heads of the Metropolitan Police, MI5 and the National Crime Agency have warned

The Times can disclose that senior figures from the world of policing and security have raised significant concerns about the impact of the government’s plans to release thousands of prisoners after they have served as little as a third of their sentences

‘We have to ensure that out of court does not mean out of justice, and that out of prison does not mean out of control,’ they said in a joint letter to the Ministry of Justice.

They warned that they would need ‘necessary resources’ in the spending review on June 11 to deal with the impact of the plans and to keep order.

The police have told the government that they will need an extra £300 million in the spending review to ‘control the additional offending population at large’

Writing in The Times, six police chiefs, including the head of the Metropolitan Police, warn that without ‘serious investment’ they will be unable to deliver on the prime minister’s flagship pledges. They say that cuts will lead to the ‘retrenchment we saw under austerity’

UK institutional failure is not some abstract thing that concerns only politics nerds. It actually kills lots of people and ruins lives.

Some psycho is let out of prison due to lack of prison space and murders someone.

Warnings about vulnerable kids get ignored and they end up tortured to death.

Young women get drugged and passed around by gangs for sex and this gets ignored for decades because 'community harmony' is more important.
