Historian, with a focus on how identity history is portrayed within video games. A @_UoW PhD student looking to make his way in the big wide world of academia.
Not taking sides until i've seen more of the game itself but I think it's incredible the sheer volume of discussion, controversy and debate generated by #Valhalla among historians. #medievaltwitter
Just recieved an identical email to the one we got this morning telling us that our return flight is cancelled. However we never flew out in the first place!!! Still waiting to hear if alternate flights are available or if we need to go home and refund. Please advise.
The Megastrand is done. Thanks to all our speakers and everyone who came to the sessions. Keep an eye on @PublicMedieval for follow up papers, and we'll see you next year! #medievaltwitter#IMC2019
@DrSyrin@LiamMcLeod_e@RobEHoughton Thank you very much, glad to be of help! I really enjoyed your talk too and I'm excited for the round table discussion to come :)
Thank you so much to everyone who came to my talk, the other speakers, @DrSyrin@LiamMcLeod_e and to @RobEHoughton for organising and being so supportive. Amazing experience, really looking forward to the rest of the sessions! #IMC2019#s549
The wheels in my mind are turning on @UKHistoryGamer’s question in #s846: why is colonisation such a popular mechanic - and is it considered a positive thing in only western games? My knowledge of non-western games is lacking! #IMC2019
So far this strand has covered historical games in teaching, white normativity in fantasy, representations of gender, Harry Potter games and the crusades as well as many more! #IMC2019 is truly a wonderful place to be
I really like the idea of having students play through a game like CK:II or Civ, take notes and contrast their narratives with academic history. An engaging way to teach critical thinking & research skills, as well as more straightforward historical knowledge. #s746#IMC2019
Great, diverse and informative session with fantastic speakers and turn out. Showing that video games and history is a popularly rising and fascinating topic, the ideas people have had so far have been extremely interesting. #IMC2019#s746
Games can inform historical research by presenting data, making / testing arguments and facilitating historical debate. Great discussion at #IMC_Leeds @RobEHoughton
@CMRR_Winchester@IMC_Leeds@_UoW Makes me very proud to come from the UoW when I see the fantastic work everyone is doing! Can't wait for the conference!
