BIG NEWS: UK to explore rejoining Erasmus+ announced at today's UK-EU Summit. @natyouthagency has a formal seat on the UK Advisory Group for the UK-EU agreement renewal and pushed hard for young people (via @bycLIVE) to regain access to international youth work opportunities and dialogue via @EUErasmusPlus. There is much more work to do before the UK rejoins E+. The UK can't rejoin E+ until 2027 anyway, so there's time to work together to get this right.
Fantastic news for young people coming out of today’s EU-UK Summit 2025 as a commitment in principle is agreed for the UK to re-join the Erasmus+ programme, the international programme for education, training, youth and sport in Europe.
NYA advocated tirelessly for access to Erasmus+ through our seat at the table on the UK/EU negotiations with UK Young Ambassador @CuttinMaurizio representing BYC, spearheading the push in NYA’s space on the group.

The UK Young Ambassadors programme (representing young people in the UK overseas) was nominated for this year’s EmpowerEU Awards, the annual awards and meeting of EU delegations and EU citizens in the UK. This year’s awards featured a dedicated youth section, with other nominations including the Young European Movement, former members of the British Youth Council, the National Youth Council for the UK. The National Youth Agency is supporting the re-establishment of the National Youth Council of the UK alongside directly supporting the UK Young Ambassadors. The UK Young Ambassadors programme was previously a core initiative of the British Youth Council, alongside the UK Youth Parliament, the House of Commons Youth Select Committee, the "Make Your Mark" annual youth ballot on key issues, and the Young Mayors Network.
Maurizio Cuttin, the senior UK Young Ambassador to Europe, attended the event to accept the nomination for his work in supporting Erasmus+ and youth mobility campaigns post-Brexit.
The UK Young Ambassadors continue to advocate for young people in the UK to have access to the Erasmus scheme (as permitted for other non-EU states) and for the creation of a youth mobility scheme that would allow work-study visas for young people from the UK to EU countries, similar to existing agreements with Australia, Japan, and Canada.
The Young European Movement won the award for its joint work with the UK Young Ambassadors on a petition advocating for young people to participate in the Erasmus scheme, as well as for its efforts in raising awareness of gender-based violence across the EU. In their acceptance speech, they recognised the vital role formerly played by the British Youth Council, the national youth council of the UK, in supporting this work as the apex youth organisation in the country.
The awards ceremony followed a day of discussions with EU citizens living in the UK about the challenges they face, communication issues, and the key concerns they wished to raise at a national level, including combating misinformation online. The meeting was attended by MPs from the main political parties, as well as senior ambassadors from EU countries and the EU delegation in London.
