#UMCGC just voted to amend and readopt Resolution #3203, Maternal Health: The Church’s Role. It includes support for paid parental leave, discussion of maternal mortality, access to contraception and accessible and affordable healthcare. We will be sharing more later this week.
The section on Reproductive Health and Abortion begins on page 28. Although we are interested in all of the Social Principles, this is our top area of interest. #UMCGC
We will be doing our best to follow all legislation/resolutions/conversations at #UMCGC related to Reproductive Justice and share what we learn. But we need your help! Please tag us or send us updates when you have them. Thanks!
We are proud to partner with @umcjustice on the Service of Lament and Hope for Pregnancy and Infant Loss and this toolkit for others to use in their own context.

I spoke with The Caring Congregation about reproductive health and reproductive justice and why the Church should care about both. #UMC#UM4RJ#UMCDeacon#WMT https://t.co/jLCmUPISbI
Governmental laws . . . do not provide all the guidance required by the informed Christian conscience. . .a decision concerning abortion should be made only after thoughtful & prayerful consideration by the parties involved, with medical, family, pastoral, &. . . counsel. 7/7

The Church shall offer ministries to reduce unintended pregnancies. We commit our Church to continue to provide nurturing ministries to those who terminate a pregnancy, to those in the midst of a crisis pregnancy, and to those who give birth. 6/7
Data from @fredclarkson reminds us that reproductive rights and voting rights are intertwined. White conservative evangelical Christians are declining in numbers, but their percentage of the electorate remains the same. #SACReDGathering22
Appreciate hearing about the similarities and differences between different religious traditions when it comes to ensoulment, life, bodily autonomy, etc. All have textual evidence. #SACReDGathering22
Dr. Pamela Davis talking about her research and how the women in her study had abortions to avoid the shame of disclosing a pregnancy to their church leadership. #SACReDGathering22
We welcome all United Methodists who are looking to find out more about Reproductive Justice and how it fits in with our doctrine and polity. (It does!) #SACReDGathering22#UMC#WMT#UM4RJ
