@jarrodjohnston Take it! We need to change the culture around leave. Also, your friendly neighborhood (close enough) Deacon is happy to help you take time off.
@UMC_CommonSense Not to mention that associates and extension ministers are also called to Word and love opportunities to preach. (I’m a deacon in extension ministry and got to preach 13 times last year. I’m so glad I was able to give my colleagues opportunities to take a Sunday off!)
“I believe that appreciation is a holy thing--that when we look for what's best in a person we happen to be with at the moment, we're doing what God does all the time. So in loving and appreciating our neighbor, we're participating in something sacred.”
@UMC_CommonSense@ryanburge I have too. Almost always given to women. And then they can say, “See, we gave a large church to a woman. And look what happened!”
@lcpatt @DylPar252@Make_it_Raines Mine filled in the minimum she felt was reasonable. But, because I am who I am, and my ministry is what it is, I attached the results of my mammogram and Pap smear each year. If they are going to ask, I wanted them to know what they were asking. The joy of being a deacon!
@UMNS If you think this isn’t enough paid leave, you are correct! Look for legislation in your AC this year to help change that. If you’d like to be part of that legislation writing and submitting, let me know! #UMC
@UMNS Small, but important, correction: The Discipline allows for 1/4 of a year of parental leave, with the first 8 weeks guaranteed to be paid. The additional FIVE weeks may or may not be paid. (1/4 of a year is 13 weeks, not 12) #UMC
The #DeathPenalty is always inadmissible, because it attacks the inviolability and dignity of the person. I appeal for its abolition in all countries of the world. We must not forget that a person can repent and change, even up until the very last moment of their life.
