The #HLM2026AIDS comes at a decisive political moment.
Progress is uneven and increasingly under threat, and the world cannot afford to lose momentum now.
On 22–23 June, leaders will gather to renew commitments and accelerate action to end AIDS by 2030.

My deep appreciation for the leadership of Minister Joe Phaahla of South Africa 🇿🇦, Ambassador Bob Rae of Canada 🇨🇦, and Fionnula Murphy representing civil society, the Co-Facilitators of the PCB Working Group. I also want to thank Deputy Secretary-General @AminaJMohammed for her engagement with this process.

The fourth opportunity is data, because of course none of this works without multi-sectoral data.
This is where @UNAIDS plays a critical role. Epidemiological data to know the epidemic. Programmatic data to know what works, who is reached and who is left behind. Data on policies and laws, to show where rights are upheld and where they are denied. And financing data so we know what investments are needed and how countries are using their own domestic resources for the response.
#PCB58 #UnitedToEndAIDS
Through its consultations and deliberations, the PCB Working Group on the Further Transition and Integration of @UNAIDS has moved the discussion in a positive and constructive direction—from sunset to preserving the role of the UN to support the AIDS response in a new and transformed manner. This aligns with the heart of the Secretary-General’s UN80 steer. Joint delivery that is fit for purpose – reshaped and more affordable, without losing the UN’s core promise. #UnitedToEndAIDS #PCB58
We will not deliver on the promise of ending AIDS through institutions alone. We will deliver it through people, through the communities who refuse to be invisible, through the staff who carry this mission every day, through the partners and Member States who stand with us, and through courageous leadership in the face of uncertainty.
This is how we have always moved this response forward. And that is how, together, the UN will carry it to 2030 — and beyond.

Pleased to have the Netherlands' Vice Minister and DG for International Cooperation, Pascalle Grotenhuis opening today's @UNAIDS Programme Coordinating Board meeting. Grateful for 🇳🇱's continued support of the global HIV response and for the Joint Programme.
"Let's not linger in the past, but look to the future."
Opening the thematic discussion, Netherlands Vice-Minister Pascalle Grotenhuis called for a future-proof, impact-driven UNAIDS that is financially viable, aligned with UN reform, and centred on the people it serves.
Reaffirming its commitment to ending AIDS, NACO will participate in the 58th UNAIDS Programme Coordinating Board Meeting (PCB) from 30 June to 2 July 2026 in Geneva, Switzerland.
As a member of the UNAIDS PCB, India to join global partners in shaping policies, sharing best practices and strengthen collective efforts towards ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.

India at the 58th #UNAIDSPCB : Strengthening HIV Response towards #ViksitBharat2047
Addressing the 58th #UNAIDSPCB, India highlighted its Triple Elimination Strategy to eliminate vertical transmission of HIV, Syphilis and Hepatitis B, reaffirmed its commitment to Universal Health Coverage through integrated primary healthcare under the vision of #ViksitBharat2047.
India also emphasized the need to preserve UNAIDS' core functions for a stronger global response to end AIDS by 2030

Countries that protect rights achieve stronger HIV outcomes. Yet we are seeing a dangerous rollback of rights for those at highest risk: women and girls, gay men, trans people, people who inject drugs and sex workers.
For the first time since @UNAIDS began tracking, criminalisation is rising.
#HLM2026AIDS
Criminal laws undermine services and allow HIV to spread. At the same time, shrinking civic space is disabling community-led organisations that have proven most effective in reaching people living with and affected by HIV.
One study across 47 countries found community services cut by 50–85%.

52 countries have committed to increasing domestic financing since the rapid cuts. Regional initiatives — the Accra Reset led by President Mahama of 🇬🇭Ghana, the @_AfricanUnion Roadmap, the Alliance for the Elimination of HIV in the Americas — are building health sovereignty.
Financing agencies—@GlobalFund, called for in this hall by Kofi Annan; the 🇺🇸 US bilateral programme—have secured new funding even in times of challenge. And we call for more.
🇧🇷 Brazil’s G20 initiative is advancing regional production of medicines.
Everywhere, communities refuse to give up and die — they continue to deliver services and defend one another under attack.
