UNOSSC Director Dima Al-Khatib (@dimaalkhatib1) met with Oman’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Omar Said Omar Al Kathiri, and briefed diplomats from Oman’s Permanent Mission (@oman_un) on UNOSSC’s mandate and work, including the Global Alliance for South-South and Triangular Cooperation.

Discussions explored opportunities to mainstream #SouthSouth and #TriangularCooperation into Oman’s development cooperation priorities and national development vision, building on the country’s existing initiatives and expertise. Both sides expressed interest in strengthening collaboration, sharing Oman’s development experiences through South-South Galaxy+, and identifying focused areas for knowledge exchange and joint action.

The Director encouraged Oman’s engagement in the Global Alliance to connect development priorities with expertise, solutions and partnerships across the Global South.

This guided the Expanded Inter-Agency Mechanism (IAM) meeting, as entities discussed practical steps to implement the @UN System-wide Strategy for 2026–2029.

Discussions focused on preparations for the 23rd High-level Committee on South-South Cooperation, the IAM Joint Action Plan, the UN System-wide Strategy Scorecard, and the IAM Communications Network.

Advancing sustainable aquaculture through South-South cooperation!

Five experts from Zimbabwe, Algeria, China and Papua New Guinea came together to share good practices, innovations and challenges, and explore opportunities for collaboration in aquaculture development.

The event was organized under the Global South-South Development Centre Phase II (GSSDC II), a flagship initiative of the China-UN Global South-South Development Facility, supported by the Government of China @Chinamission2un.

By connecting expertise, technologies and development needs, South-South cooperation can strengthen local capacities, advance food security and unlock the potential of the blue economy.

Ahead of #COP31, students engaged in the UNOSSC–@NYU Consulting Practicum, “From Sevilla to 2030+: Financing Climate Resilience in the Global South,” interviewed Kishan Khoday, @UNDP Resident Representative for The Bahamas, Belize, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Jamaica and Turks & Caicos.

Through the practicum, the students are examining how global financing commitments can translate into practical support for least developed countries, landlocked developing countries and small island developing States. Their work combines research and practitioner perspectives with scenarios looking towards 2040 to identify choices policymakers can make today.

Today’s conversation explored climate finance, South-South cooperation, and how resilience funding can reach households, farmers, and small businesses.

For the second year, @UNOSSC Director Dima Al-Khatib (@dimaalkhatib1) is an ambassador for the @ESA GDA Impact Stories from Space Challenge. It gathers stories of Earth observation in development work, so others can learn from them and build on them.
