Ten days after his engagement, a 28 year old fighter pilot's jet failed in the night sky over Jamnagar. His co pilot got out. He did not.

His name was Flight Lieutenant Siddharth Yadav, from Rewari in Haryana.

His father served in the Air Force. His grandfather and great grandfather served in the Army.

On 23 March 2025 he got engaged. The wedding was fixed for 2 November.

On the night of 2 April 2025 he took off from Jamnagar airbase in a two seater Jaguar with Flight Lieutenant Manoj Kumar Singh.

The jet developed a technical fault. The Air Force said the pilots started ejection and avoided harm to the airbase and the local people.

According to reports, Siddharth made sure his co pilot ejected first and steered the burning jet away from homes into an open field near Suvarda village.

Manoj survived with injuries. Siddharth died in the crash.

He was cremated in Rewari with full military honours.

His wedding was seven months away.
