FIRST TEN// @NBFC_Official
Can the Lions Roar Out the Blocks?
Benfield approach the new season with a familiar sense of volatility. Last season they finished 13th - a campaign defined by streaks, contradictions, and flashes of brilliance that never quite became a run. The Lions claimed only four home wins last season and an all or nothing attitude on the road. Can beat anyone but can also lose to anyone too.
A testing first ten fixtures of the new season will show which version turns up.
They open the campaign with a trip to Yarm & Eaglescliffe. The Eagles were promoted through the playoff and are full of energy with a talismanic goal threat. Benfield’s away form last season was strong (8 wins), including a mixed bag against the then newly promoted sides - winning away at Y&E’s neighbours but losing at Horden. This could be a chance to start fast - but also a potential trap if Benfield underestimate them.
A tough test next as they host Boro Rangers. The sides drew 0-0 at Sam Smith’s last season and Benfield will need discipline and structure to repeat or better than result even on home soil..
Whitley Bay are the next visitors, they finished 3rd and beat Benfield 2–1 just before Christmas last season. A very tough early home fixture but a good barometer of when the Lions stand..
Another difficult fixture is next as they travel to Bishop Auckland. The side relegated from the Northern Premier League East have been very busy recruitment-wise and will look to hit the ground running. Benfield’s away resilience will be tested as they look to avenge a 7-1 hammering on their last visit to Heritage Park.
Benfield travel to North Shields where they recorded a 3–0 victory last season thanks to a Glen Hargrave hat‑trick - one of their best performances of the year. Shields finished 8th and were win or bust at home last campaign, and this could be a chaotic, high‑tempo clash.
Teesdale Park was a happy hunting ground last campaign as Benfield beat Thornaby last December. Thornaby finished 14th but will be a much-changed outfit. On paper, a winnable game - but Benfield must avoid complacency to repeat last year's success..
Shildon finished runners‑up and they did the league double over Benfield including a 1–0 victory in the corresponding victory at Sam Smith’s - one of seven home league games in which they failed to score. The Railwaymen will be top six contenders again and. Benfield will need their best defensive performance.
The Lions then will host Northallerton, who finished bottom last season but after a reprieve are now under new management. Benfield eased to a 5–0 home victory last October — one of their most dominant displays. A must‑win fixture if a positive beginning is the aim.
Benfield lost 1–0 away to Horden last season. Horden finished 11th mostly due to Welfare Park being a very difficult place to go. A tough away night.that will reveal a lot.
In the final First Ten fixture for Benfield Newton Aycliffe will host the Lions after they were relegated from the Northern Premier League. Benfield’s last visit to Moore Lane was a 2-1 loss in July 2022 with Aiden Haley’s late red card compounding the defeat. Aycliffe will be strong, organised, and expectant at home.
Six of the first ten are away but Benfield’s away record last season was better than their home one. Can they start this campaign with a roar?
