The #USC Center for #Sustainability Solutions contributes to the solutions of the most pressing urban #environmental challenges, and advances the U.N. #SDGs
During the "Human Condition" panel, Gail Sinatra, Professor of Education and Psychology and Associate Dean for Research, @USCRossier spoke on choices in meeting the challenge of #ClimateChange:
"We politicize climate change... people are politicizing choices, like you're a good person if you ride an e-bike and bad if you commute by car.
"There are people who want to make different choices but they don't know what to do. We work in our research on shifting the identify group; that's how you can do a better job of communicating."
Mahta Moghaddam, Vice Dean for Research at @USCViterbi interviewed Sue Biniaz, Deputy Special Envoy for Climate, Office of the U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate for the @StateDept:
"Renewables have changed everything. When I was working on the Kyoto Protocol, in the U.S. the reception was almost entirely negative except for this tiny renewables sector.
"No one could have imaged back then how solar and wind etc. would have taken over and prices would've gone down. I think they are enabling people to think that maybe we could actually keep 1.5°C alive," says Biniaz
During the Energy and Transportation panel, Jacquelyn Birdsall (@Jackie_Birdsall) of Toyota North America spoke on developing fuel cell solutions to replace gasoline and diesel engines:
"When you ask me about my dream in 20 years, it's that hydrogen is one of the alternatives to decarbonize as fast as possible. We can build a fully sustainable transportation structure and create green jobs while we're at it."
