We are deeply saddened by the assassination of former Prime Minister Abe. As Japan’s longest-serving Prime Minister, he was a tireless advocate for Japan and a trusted friend of the United States.

I am horrified and saddened by the assassination of Prime Minister Abe.

I had the pleasure to meet with him three times, including during my 2015 trip to Japan. He was a friend to the U.S. and a strong leader who worked tirelessly for his people. America mourns with Japan today.
