My Seabee brothers hit those Normandy beaches right beside the infantry. We didn’t just fight… we built the Mulberry harbors, cleared the obstacles, and kept the ammo and supplies rolling while machine guns tore everything apart.
Today marks the 106th anniversary of the Merchant Marine Act of 1920.
Many will tell you that all the "Jones Act" covers is coastal trade, or cabotage.
But in truth, the Act was the first national maritime strategy and set the policy for US and allied success in World War Two and the great post war cargo expansion.

#OTD 5 June 1942 the Delfina was hit by one torpedo about 130 miles northwest of San Juan, Puerto Rico. On 9 June, the master and the 14 crew members in the lifeboat made landfall at Montecristi, Dominican Republic. Crew 31 (4 dead and 27 survivors).
