The future is launching at UTEP! Today, we celebrated the grand opening of the Advanced Manufacturing and Aerospace Center, the new home of the Aerospace Center and the W.M. Keck Center. These two research centers will work to advance America’s goals in aerospace and defense.
Thank you to Chancellor @jbmilliken and Chairman Eltife from @utsystem for joining us virtually for the grand opening of the Advanced Manufacturing and Aerospace Center! We are so grateful for your support.
🚀 🏆 Big news! UTEP’s Sun City Summit Rocket Team (@uteprocketteam) has taken the top spot at the Lone Star Cup, the largest student-run collegiate rocketry tournament in Texas! They triumphed against contenders like Tech, A&M & UTSA. #GoMiners!

@ac_charania@NASA @SpaceForceDoD @UNM@northropgrumman The panel discussed the new age in space research, future space technologies, engagement w/
@DeptofDefense & academia, DoD funding of basic research, & more. Events like these deepen connections in space technology ecosystem, launching new, impactful partnerships.
The American Astronautical Society invited Executive Director @SheryWelsh to participate as a panelist at its prestigious 2024 von Braun Space Exploration Symposium last month.
She joined a roundtable discussion on space technology with @ac_charania—Chief Technologist at
@NASA—& Dr. Stacy Williams—Chief Science Officer at @SpaceForceDoD—that was led by Dr. Andy Kwas—Professor @UNM & Senior Technical Fellow for
@northropgrumman.
Executive Director, Dr. Shery Welsh, delivered the keynote address at Foreign Trade Zone 68 Industry Summit 2024. Dr. Welsh blended insights from her 37-year career in DoD and time at UTEP to engage the audience in community transformation through: connections & risk-taking.
Max's research supervisor notes that Max "is a very organized, effective, and goal-driven researcher." Max will be commissioning into @SpaceForceDoD in May 25. The Aerospace Center succeeds because of the important contributions that research assistants like Max make in our labs.
So proud of Maximilian Rothblatt, a master's research assistant at the Aerospace Center. College Tour profiled the exceptionally busy Max (Air Force ROTC, top 10 senior, Hawkins scholar, and Rhodes scholarship finalist) in its recent episode on UTEP. https://t.co/KNZnXByN5C
The Aerospace Center is grateful to both @LockheedMartin for partnering with us on this work and to Lockheed Martin's AI/ML engineer Mark Veyette for his support.
If you are at ASCEND today, stop by booth 2 in the exhibit hall to learn more about our research.
Our colleague Eduardo Macias Zugasti presented his research at @ascendspace this week. He found a receptive audience for his "Study on the Current Generation Compute Modules Running AI in Space" at the annual gathering of people dedicated to accelerating our off-world future.
The camp takes place from July 22 to July 26 from noon to 4 pm each day on the UTEP campus. Space Camp only has room for 10 high school students so register today! https://t.co/INO2R4UBox

T minus 14 days until Space Camp launches. The NASA sponsored STEM camp is a great opportunity for El Paso-area high school students to engage in hands-on research and receive mentorship from aerospace professionals.
Participants moved into UTEP dorms to get a taste of the college experience and worked on a digital engineering project focused on using digital twins to improve aircraft maintenance. A big shoutout to all the talented ladies who joined us and made this camp unforgettable! 🚀✨
School is out for the summer but our K12 program doesn’t stop inspiring the next generation of engineers. Students from @YsletaISD Young Women’s Leadership Academy joined us last week for an amazing Empowering Ladies in Engineering, Ventures, and Aerospace Training (ELEVATE) Camp
ATTN: Manufacturers in the El Paso region. El Paso Makes is offering a free workshop on the basics of 3D Scanning and Reverse Engineering tomorrow, June 28th, from 9 am to 1 pm on the UTEP campus. Contact Rolando Vivas ([email protected]) for event details and registration.
Happy Pride Month! @UTEPAerospace is dedicated to opening inclusive pathways into aerospace engineering & other STEM fields for all peoples. The growing space economy creates economic mobility & we want that economic opportunity to be broadly shared in El Paso and beyond.
Students in our Space Camps research a theme over the course of the school year that culminates in a capstone project. NASA will announce the theme for the next school year later this summer. We hope that even more schools will participate in another exciting year at Space Camp
Congratulations to sophomores Lilith Throgmorton, Thomas Rios, & Angelina Rodriguez from @ELPASO_ISD Chapin High School for winning 1st place in our @NASA Space Camp Student STEM showcase! (Lilith was not able to attend the presentation; only Thomas and Angelina are pictured.)
Their innovative acoustic liner for reducing noise pollution from NASA jet planes had the highest marks among the 19 middle and high schools from 5 different regional school districts. Chapin's Juan Clague and Johanna Daniels-Sherman provided support and mentorship to the team.
