Affordable GPS-disciplined SDR expansion board

@UUGear's VU GPSDR expansion board is designed specifically for the Vivid Unit, a palm-sized Rockchip RK3399-based touchscreen SBC.
The VU GPSDR is built around the RTL2832U ADC and Rafael Micro R860 tuner, but what makes it different from SDRs like the PhaseLatch Mini and DeepRad SDR is the integration of a u-blox NEO-M8N GPS module. This module provides a GPS-disciplined 24 MHz clock reference to the Si5351 local oscillator, which ensures high frequency stability and timing accuracy.
The VU GPSDR works with GPSDR++, a fork of the open-source SDR++ (v1.2.0) project.
I’d probably have my new portable @UUGear scanning up to 6 GHz by now (SDR swap), but I got completely sidetracked trying to push all this HFDL and VDL2 data into Grafana. Still can’t get the map fields to parse right… but man, this stuff’s addictive. Thanks @thebaldgeek 👀📡
Also made some progress with the handheld Vivid unit. Thought I got lucky and the mini-PCIe slot would take my older Z2 directly — nope! 😅 Luckily, I had a makeshift carrier that bolted right on the back. One issue left though: whether I go this route or use the M.2 SDR, I’ll need to build kernel modules. Waiting on headers and kernel source before making more progress, but I’ve got a backup plan ready.
Pocket ADS-B is cool and all, but you really want Iridium, right? 😏
@thebaldgeek I’ll have to put that together when I get some time — won’t hit full N100-level performance, but hey… it’ll still pull some solid results.
This is awesome. 🔥@UUGear
By the weekend, I’m fairly confident this little Linux powered handheld is going to be scanning up to 6 GHz with an alternate integrated SDR. The stock RTLSDR like add-on and the SDR++ GPS mods are already looking way too good.
VU GPSDR can receive ADS-B signals from nearby aircrafts, list active flights and plot their positions directly on the map view. https://t.co/YuZmRuryZ1
We are excited to announce the release of "VU GPSDR", a GPS-Assisted Software Defined Radio (SDR) designed as an expansion board for the Vivid Unit and Vivid Unit Extender. https://t.co/YuZmRur19t
