At the UW-Madison College of Engineering, we develop the leaders, knowledge and technologies that improve lives and create a better future. #BadgerEngineers
Perseverance, teamwork, talent and luck.
UW–Madison professor and 2026 @NobelPrize laureate in physics Francis Halzen shares what it takes to overcome challenges on the road to scientific discovery.
Francis Halzen, winner of the 2026 @NobelPrize in physics, joins a community of Badgers who’ve changed the world.
Meet UW–Madison's Nobel laureates: https://t.co/646DOT2O8C
It’s official! I am glad to share that I have joined the @UWMadison as an Assistant Professor within the Electrical and Computer Engineering department.
A special thanks goes to @RavikumarPrad at @mldcmu and @Korba_Anna at @CrestUmr / @ENSAEparis for advising me through my postdoc experience!
At UW-Madison, I am launching my machine learning research group! I am recruiting at all levels, including PhD students to start in Fall 2027. My research group aims to:
• develop mathematical foundations to explain when diffusion-based and energy-based algorithms scale to real data,
• design sampling algorithms for chemistry,
• and learn representations and causal structure from brain recordings.
Please share. More information here: https://t.co/3Rghvx2g27.
Congratulations to Francis Halzen on winning the 2026 @NobelPrize in physics for his major contributions to the U.S. National Science Foundation IceCube Neutrino Observatory and its discoveries of elusive neutrino particles that come to Earth from distant places in the universe.
For more than two decades, NSF has invested in the design, construction, and ongoing operations of NSF IceCube, enabling a deeper understanding of astrophysical neutrinos and their origins.
A huge congratulations to BME students Noah Kalthoff and Ruffin Bryant, along with Computer Science and Data Science student Aadya Ganjigunta, on earning 3rd place and the Best Methodology Report award at the #MICCAI 2026 @endo_vis SurgVU Challenge!
We're excited to announce faculty in engineering and in @UWMadison partner schools and colleges as co-leaders of each of our "Engineering Moonshots" -- six ambitious challenges where we aim to deliver meaningful solutions for society. https://t.co/Lic1EwOdCk @DeanRanjan
New @UWMadisonECE Professor Daniel Costinett focuses on designing energy converters tiny enough to fit on computer chips to increase their speed and power.
