The Science of Safety!

@RasaanNYC@engineers_feed Its a fun example when I show it to groups. I display the first image (Read this first...), then I chat with them.
Most read the large headline first.
Then I take it down. I ask them to read the next one the same way.
I show the RX version.
Then I ask "Alright, who died?"
@AllHardNation@engineers_feed The great thing is that a lot of smart people work very hard and figure out how to do the job correctly....
Even though the procedures that they are given are not designed FOR them.
Join us for a presentation about how usability makes operations procedures safer.

@cjblamey@engineers_feed I appreciate it. I am doing a presentation this Tuesday. I am showing some examples and also some solutions.
“How Usability makes Operation’s Procedures Safer.’

@engineers_feed The design of information matters, and it should match the behavior of a user to achieve safe outcomes.
Here is an example of a usable design:
- nested alert augments behavior.
- steps are chunked according to behavior.
- procedure is safe if the nested alert is removed.
@engineers_feed Ordering things by the importance level of the writer would not match the behavior of the user. Here is an example of this graphic put into a procedural context. This is wrong too, but I see this design in a lot of procedures (mining, oil and gas, construction).
@Colts WE can help with better procedures that follow the laws of human behavior.

@WorksafeCA@kpnorcal We see this all the time. There is a way to engineer procedures for workers that they will actually use!
